MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - A freshman student was in critical condition Wednesday after she was attacked in a dorm room at Middle Tennessee State University, a university official said.
The 18-year-old woman was found unconscious in the suspect's dorm room after a male student placed an emergency call around midnight, said Bob Glenn, vice president for student affairs.
The suspect was taken into custody for questioning but had not yet been charged. He and the victim lived in the same dorm, though it wasn't immediately clear if they were acquainted.
The female student is listed in stable but critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Glenn said. The nature of her injuries was not immediately released.
The university is about 30 miles southeast of Nashville and enrolls about 22,500 students.
Both students' families were notified, and the university sent out an e-mail to faculty, staff and students.
Good thing noone had a concealed firearm on campus
