Free food! Not if The Local Police Have Anything to Say About it!

Dang! I thought it would be IL or CA but, it's GA... Need all new government there, cops afraid of the populace?
ghastly stupidity - may they reap what they sow...

Hmmmmm, not sure what to think of this.

On one hand, I'm saddened that they threw away food that could have gone to people that needed it.
On the other hand, if the police would have handed the food out or let them take it they would have been guilty of assisting in theft.

The food was not the property of Laney Supermarket, it was the property of Suntrust bank, so they had no right to give it away.

How would you feel if someone went to your house and gave away all your stuff to "those in need" without your permission?

you sir are one of the few who still think straight!
who are those people who were demanding that this confiscated property be given away? i am not trying to sound racist of bigoted but it appears to be the same old "entitlement crowd" .
who would decide who is worthy of getting the free merchandise?
allowing a free for all would have caused riot like mobs fighting to get whatever they could grab.
in addition there is a liability issue, a lot of that food could have been spoiled from mishandling, lack of refrigeration, or being out of date, who would be responsible if people were made sick from the free food?
it is a shame that the food could not have been sent to a food charity or soup kitchen, I agree with the decision to just trash the stuff.
only the simpletons, the 30 second attention span types are the ones who can't seem to get the larger picture.

Seems like a waste. First, this was a mortgage foreclosure, the bank did not own the contents of the building, only the building itself (they did not borrow money for the food, only for the building). The owners of the store contents (foreclosed store owners) opted to give it away but for some reason the police trashed it instead. The police had no right to throw away the store owners property, but I blame the recipients for acting like animals while trying to get it. It's a grey area, once abandoned by the store owners do the police have the right to dispose of the discarded items to defuse a public commotion? Or do they have to secure it until a court decides what to do with it.

We all need to calm down and think about what Matt Dillon would do.

I'm surprised the crowd didn't swallow those cops up. That's a bold freakin move.

A few points from the video,

Why wouldn't the church come get the food they were offered?

Why wouldn't the owner respond to this with charity?

Why does the lady say "A lot of people wont have food on the table now"? Was there going to be food on the table if the store hadn't closed and it had to be purchased?

I like the "entitlement" description.. Exactly what it is.
