Fox News advice on storing guns renders them useless

Citing the NRA, Fox News has posted a story that suggest we keep our guns unloaded and locked in safes with trigger locks attached and the ammunition in a separate room.

Good advice for storing weapons you don't intend to use for home protection, like hunting rifles or target handguns.

But the weapons you want to use for self protection won't be much good if locked away unloaded with trigger locks and separated from ammo - unless the burglars in your neighborhood are in the habit of making appointments before coming to rob your home.

How to store guns safely in your home

Your link doesn't work.

I think what's the best method is to throw all the ammo you have in your trunk , then take your guns apart and store them in acid water in a safe... Then put the safe in your bathroom behind your toilet , that way no one will get hurt with them

I don't often have the chance to agree with you, but you are right on the money with this one. I always have a beef with the talking heads on television. They read the words on the teleprompter without knowing ANYTHING about the subject. No one their right mind would suggest that we store our self-defense pistol/rifle/shotgun as they state. But then again, they are truly ignorant on the subject, so we can expect them to frequently confirm our suspicions of their idiocy.

Thanks for the post and link.

Remember that the NRA is doing what it takes to bring those sitting on the fence over to being with us. Many people have no clue what it is to own or handle a gun, even an airsoft. So take it for what it is, a PC spin.

No problem, when the home invasion occurs, just tell the BGs to "hold it for a moment", or with both hands make a T and say "time out", or with both index fingers make an X and say "king's X". Then open the safe, put the gun together, disengage the safeties, locks, and so on, load it, and tell them if they don't make nice you'll have to fire a warning shot.

"Edumacate" me please. What's wrong with the advice?

As responsible gun owners we are supposed to know that guns kill. We need to keep them locked up in at least 5 ways so that they cannot escape and kill.

I found that the batteries in my smoke detectors last virtually forever if I wait until there is a fire to install them. I also prefer to wait until I am actually crashing before I put my seat belt on.

They obviously have no clue what they are talking about...there is no such thing as an unloaded firearm...duh...*sarcasm*

Just kidding, I agree, if the firearm is not being used it should be stored properly. A firearm for self defense is in use 24/7.
