Forgot about your gun?

I forget mine all the time, but probably not in the way you think. When I walk into a store, I don't think about my socks, even though I'm wearing them, but it might take me half a second to think about it if you asked if I was wearing any. I've gotten that comfortable with my gun too. Unless I'm in a situation where it makes itself known, like when it's really hot and the sweat makes the leather rub against me uncomfortably, I just don't think about it anymore. And I can think of one occasion over the past several years that I've had my license that I've walked into a CPZ with my gun because I just wasn't thinking about it. It's just that comfortable to me. But mostly it was because I forgot that establishment was a CPZ. We call them CPZs here in Ohio, for Criminal Protection Zones, because that's where the criminals are safe from any citizens who might be able to stop their crimes. In Ohio we have enumerated and posted CPZs. Enumerated are those specified in the law, such as courthouses and other governmental buildings, and posted are just businesses or other premises where the owner puts up a no guns allowed sign. I've never forgotten an enumerated CPZ.

So comfortable that your mind doesn't divert any attention to the fact your weapon is with you I completely understand as I experience it myself. The concept of forgetting you have a weapon in your possesion is completely beyond my ability to comprehend. So do these types of people also forget they have a weapon in a situation where they actually need one?

It's there and I know it's there, but I don't dwell on it... I don't carry into schools... Or the municipal building... Businesses with signs, I keep my gun concealed and my mouth shut... The "ASK ME IF I CARRY A GUN" tee shirt is optional...
Oh, and I gave away my CCW badge...

I'm guessing that people who carry in a manner where they actually "forget" they have a gun with them are people who lack situational awareness and are at an extreme disadvantage anyway.

I have never forgotten I am wearing my Glock19, or spare G17 magazine, or even my Surefire flashlight, but they fit so well on my belt, But I almost forget they are there!

I understand what y'all mean. But it's hard to not notice the 2+ lbs on my waist lol. But yeah I understand being comfortable with your rig.

I can see how this could happen. When I carry on my belt it seems I am always aware of the gun but on occasion I have a 380 ruger LCP in my pocket it is so comfortable it could be forgotten. I walked in a Casino once but it was not noticed.

Errrr, I forgot my wallet the other day after I left the house. Had my weapon, spare mag, keys but no wallet which holds my permits. Driving without a license, CC without my permit. Dam glad I didn't get stopped.

As for "Now THAT'S paranoid! But...... Am I being paranoid enough?" Just because you think people are out for you, doesn't mean they're not.
Now that I have done.

You aren't paranoid, the gov't is out to get you.

I expect that's one of the unmentioned hazzards of off-body carry. Once one starts putting guns (especailly BUGs) into anything that's not firmly held to one's body, it becomes more difficult to remember exactly WHICH container (bag, purse, backpack, etc.) holds the gun RIGHT NOW.

Default Mode should then be: Every (OBC) is ALWAYS loaded (just like every gun is always loaded).
Don't leave home without CHECKING it. Deadly if one needs it and it's not there. Expensive if it is discovered where it can not be present.

I think you have a point there, guns in purses and such ... holstered on your belt is a lot harder to forget about.

Because of the weight of my guns I carry I always know when I am carrying one. My progun shirts that I wear every day remind me to carry all the time. My question is what gun do you carry, that you dont remember that you are carrying? is it really that lightweight?

Glock G30SF. And like I said before, it's not that I don't remember it. It's just so comfortable and so much a part of my normal life that I don't consciously think about it anymore. It's not a feather, but it's pretty light.

Technically I have five carry guns but the G30SF is almost always the one I carry. Two of the others are in fact lighter than the G30, but I only carry the lightest one, a Ruger SP101, in special circumstances. The other lighter one is about to become my wife's carry gun, and the fourth gun, which is heavier but has higher capacity, I usually only carry during outdoor scenarios in the winter when heavier clothing is being worn. The fifth gun I never carry anymore. The holsters help too. I have Crossbreed Supertucks for all except the SP101. I had a Smart Carry holster for it, but I need to figure out something else.

I often holster up and head out for the day and never think about the gun again. It's like my wallet in terms of what to grab when heading out. While I do forget it's there as I go about my business I have yet to forget about it and enter a GFZ where I would get into trouble and never will

Same here. I strap up as soon as Im out of the shower in the morning. There have been a few times I made it into my office or almost made it in and then realized I still had it on and had to return to my car. It wears well and is comfortable. Stuff happens. The comments that you dont deserve to carry if you ever spaced it, are ridiculous.
