That's one way to get around it. What's to stop an enterprising bad guy from picking up brass at a firing range and spreading it around a crime scene? How many years will it take for all the guns produced the last couple hundred years to be out of private hands? This is nothing more than typical liberal good intentions. Not meant to solve any problems but boy do they feel good about it.

Any time politicians push a technology solution to a (non)problem, it's bound to be a bust.

NY recently dropped it gun fingerprinting program. Millions and millions of dollars spent, not one case resolved by it. How is this going to be any better?

An easier alternative would be to just file off a few thou from the end of the firing pin or what not, causing the stamping to be all but gone.

But I forgot, the criminals are surely going to abide by the law, and turn in their illegally purchased\stolen firearms to be converted for microstamping. The over 2 million illegal handguns reported to be in NYC alone by the NYPD will be turned in for conversion, not a doubt in my mind. It'll work as well as COBIS did, because as we all know the law abiding citizens are the ones shooting up the streets.

Ok you guys are missing the point here. Committing a CRIME ( IE breaking the law ) is what bad guys ALREADY do this is why they are BG's! If the law that says they they can not steal a car is ignored to get a car to drive to the store they want to rob ( also already illegal ) with firearms they stole or bought form someone selling them illegally then shoot the folks they rob ( again already illegal ) then flee in a high speed chase ( also illegal ) and either get away or get caught why does any person think making another law will have any benefit? MD came up with the half assed idea to keep a case from every handgun to use to identify the shooter. They spent countless millions and how many crimes solved? NONE though I have head there was in fact one? So in MD they restrict the people from being able to defend themselves all the while MD cops take guns off BG's every day?
