FN five seven

Any one have the FN five seven? If so, what are your thoughts on this weapon other than the high cost of the gun and the expensive ammo to go through it?

Thanks

The gun is a little pricey, but the ammo isn't bad at all. About $18ish per box of 50. It's made by one MFG so the quality is top notch. I have a little over 10k rounds of it (for my ps90 also) and have never had a bad round. Balistically its a great round and accurate to boot. I can easily keep all my shots on paper at 50yds and 8 out of 10 at 100yds. Yes, I was talking yards. ;)

As for the gun, it is a keeper. In my opinion it will never win any accuracy contests, but you will hit what your aiming at.
I like the fact that it holds 20rnds in a standard mag and 30 with a small extension. No need for carrying an extra mag. It is definately a great gun and fun to shoot. I would highly suggest getting one. They run used around $800-$900 on gunbroker. I have seen them as low as $700(but that is rare).
My favorite thing is that it uses the same ammo as my ps90. That makes more sense than having two different calibers to fool with, you know, if the SHTF or the zombies come out ;)

Pros-Magazine capacity, quality built, lightweight, fairly accurate out to 50yds, very low recoil, not as loud as most.

Cons-size(not bad but longer than Glock30).

The serpa Blackhawk holster works perfectly for me.

I like it. The gun is expensive, but the ammo isn't too bad. SS195 is lead free and SS197SR is the sporting round. Each come in boxes of 50, and you can probably get each box for around $20 or so. If you go to ammotogo.com or some of the other online places, you can get the ammo for less if you buy in bulk. Elite Ammunition has some really good ammo, but at a higher price. Link Removed

I use a crossbreed holster with the FsN, and it fits nicely. It isn't a small gun, but can be concealed with a good IWB.

It is supposed to be accurate for at least 50 yards, and some people have had positive results at 100 yards. I have tried further than 15 yards due to the indoor range I go to, but it was pretty accurate. Very little recoil to boot.

It isn't a replacement for a .45, but it isn't supposed to be. The FsN uses the same ammo as the PS90, and there are parts so that you can modify an AR15 to fire the 5.7 x 28 round.

Depending on what you what to do with the gun, it can be a great choice.

Hey mpohio, nice FN. I would love to have one of those, but can't afford the price. Nice gun though.

Thanks guys. Sounds like this gun is a winner. Love the photos and thanks for the ammo links. The ammo link I looked at first indicated the price was around $50.00/box! Appreciate all the comments.

There are some crazy prices out there. Some people are charging $50 or more for SS192 due to the idiotic rumors that is an armor piercing round, and that it is an illegal round to bring in to country. It isn't illegal as it isn't an armor piercing round. It is the SS195LF round but instead of a lead free primer, has lead primer. FNH restricted the round after the Brady Bunch got into the armor piercing round fray, and then FNH dropped the SS192.

You will also hear that the FsN is about be banned because it fires armor piercing ammunition (can't almost all guns fire armor piercing ammunition?) so dealers raise the price of the gun. It isn't being banned though Congress did try a few years ago, but didn't go anywhere.

Prices of 5.7 ammo did go up a few dollars about four months ago, but you should certainly get it for a reasonable price. Won't be as cheap as .22, but should be cheaper than many other rounds.
