Florida teen killed by ccw holder

There are still too few details to go one way or another. No matter if you are in a state with a castle doctrine or not you still must ensure that it is a good shooting. Time will tell with this one.

Late on Friday, after police played 911 calls for them, lawyers for Martin's family told a news conference they planned to ask for a meeting with US Attorney General Eric Holder.

IOL is a great source for news - IF YOU'RE IN JOHANNESBURG, CAPE TOWN, OR DURBAN. This is a South African website, with lousy reporting of US events. This article is shoddy at best...no facts, nothing but circumstance, innuendo, and rumor.

I dug around the net a bit...and so far, from what I've read, all anyone REALLY knows is that Zimmerman (the shooter, age 26) was either not arrested, or was arrested and released. Either way, it means the police didn't feel they had enough evidence to hold and charge him.

I hope there were some decent witnesses, that the facts come to light, and that it becomes clear whether or not this was a justified shooting. IE did Zimmerman reasonably believe his life or safety was in danger?

There's a longer article on ABC.
This is unfortunate, but one only need read the CCW forums to realize that there are cop wannabes everywhere. Consider this. Suppose this was a resident of Arizona where they have constitutional carry (no CCW permit required), would it change your perception? Would it change the outcome? The gun grabbers will try to convict the shooter in a court of public opinion, and paint CCW's as loose cannons. All we can do is wait for the facts of this case.

It's pretty strange how people who were not even there are saying Zimmermans account is completely false and they know that it couldn't have happened the way it was reported.

They want an audience with Eric Holder? Who gets to meet with the US Attorney General? Typical BS/Al Sharpton rabble rousing.

Not saying Zimmerman was right or wrong, just saying that this race sh!t is gonna be the thing that is on trial. Even if Zimmerman was right, he will get railroaded because of race.

The world will be a better place when Al and Jesse go on to meet their maker, whoever that may be!

To me, the most worrying thing is the fact that he told the 911 dispatcher that he was following, and the 911 dispatcher told him not to. Yet he continued to, and got into this confrontation. Heck, he even told the dispatcher "he's running", yet continued to chase him, including into someone ELSE's yard. You know, someone follows me, then starts chasing me, I'm going to be defensive and possibly confrontational, too. Castle Doctrine and stand-your-ground laws do *NOT* cover when you chase someone down outside your property.

Obviously we don't have all the details, but that alone makes it sound not-at-all justified. If anything, the dead teenager would have had a case for self-defense, with this guy following him around then pulling a gun! (Yes, I listened to the entire set of 911 calls.)

Yeah, this incident is *NOT* going to help the cause of concealed carry. I can just see my state senator going "SEE! SEE! Even this supposedly-trained person shot an innocent kid down!"

Admittedly I didnt read that particular article. Just happened to be the first one I saw after reading others and hearing the 911 tapes on the Today show. From what I've at least heard to this point, this is highly an unjustified shooting. But will be open to hearing more.

IMO the only thing he had to do was call 911 and report it! Thats it, no need to approach the kid or anything. He was WRONG to go after the kid. He is not the police. His duty was "Neighborhood Watch" . That means watch and see if anything is going wrong if it is, call the proper authority!!

If you are on the ground being stomped on, your inability to roll with the punch or kick will likely lead to serious injury or death.

I heard the 911 call on NPR this morning, the guy was screaming for help. It was obvious he was having the crap stomped out of him. Injury to the back and front of the head probably indicates that his head was being smashed against the ground.

NOTE: Everything I have just said is pure conjecture, just like the rest of the article.

I think what I heard was that it was the teen that was yelling for help. Supposedly the shooter outweighed him by 80 lbs. not necessary that that is determinative but I think it might shed some light. Button line, I heard the guy was in a car. Hes the one that decided to follow the kid. I have no idea how the confrontation started but it seems the neighborhood watch guy thought he'd play cop and approached the kid. This is precisely why I think people hate ccw permits. Not because you get to protect yourself. That's a tough argument to beat even for the anti crowd but instead because it puts more guns in the hands of supposedly law abiding citizens who make stupid decisions beyond protecting their life from imminent threats.

Not sure if this post is directed at my post directly or not but isn't this whole forum thing pretty much based on opinions and such?? Hell, even ones interpretation of the second admendment is open to some form of opinion. Having said that I've maintained just that, these are my opinions. And likely will only be that since I doubt anyone will ever know all the facts which even so will be subject to interpretation. Precisely why the same 12 people looking at the same evidence can come to a completely different conclusion. So it seems sorta silly to not make any comment even without knowing all the facts.

There is a difference between forming an opinion on verifiable facts and forming an opinion on other peoples gossip and wild

assumption. An opinion based on facts is an informed opinion, an opinion based on gossip is just more gossip. I take it you're in the gossip ranks?

Outraged

I wonder if this clown had one of those CCW badges trying to play cop? It's clear this jackass was taking the law into his own hands, and this is just a slap in the face to the 99.5% of the responsible CCW permit holders in the country. Just give the anti-gun crowd more ammunition toward their cause.
