glad to be part of that number

Extraordinary news! Let's see the criminals guess who's carrying, and who isn't...

Now if only it were 100% of the law-abiding citizens... one step at a time!

Thank you for sharing this. Even though I don't live in Florida, it is still most excellent to hear.

Looking good. NYS has 1.3 million proud permit holders. That doesn't include NYC. I think there are four permit holders there (sarcasm added).

heard gun sales are up 40 percent in colorado since that theatre shooting so citizens it seems are beginning to realize they should be taking responsibility for their own safety and others as our word gets crazier by the day it seems

I got mine in Florida, the process is just about as easy as anything I've ever had to do with the government. There's a form, a check or money order, and a quick class. Four weeks later your license arrives in the mail. Easy as pie.

To add to this great statistic, only like 6,955 have been revoked since the program started in 1987 out of 2,227,360 issued... which equates to less than .003%. Amazing, we aren't a bunch of lawless gun toting maniacs at all.

We aren't called the GUNshine state for nothing... lol

Thought these were some interesting facts:

The upward trend in carry permit applications started about three years ago, coinciding with the election of President Barack Obama. "There always seems to be a concern when there's a change in federal administration, when there might be some attention placed on gun control laws," said Sterling Ivey, spokesman for the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which handles carry permits.

"What was thought to be a spike has really turned into a sustained period of peak demand," Putnam said.

Men, mostly middle-aged, make up 80 percent of those carrying hidden guns, or about one in 20 of Florida's 19.3 million population. Of Florida's 952,000 total permit holders, the majority, 243,505, are between the ages of 51 and 65. About 11 percent of all permit holders are from out of state.

Gun sales in Florida have likewise risen, by 96 percent from 2002 to the end of 2011.

Ya never know when an old man/woman is packen a gun??

this middle aged woman is :yes4: and my age is mainly my reason as i not as quick or strong as i used to be but am wiser .......

Don't mean to profile but I hear Florida has passed a drug test law for welfare recipients. If that's true I'm wondering what effect that may have with violent crime. With the max exit of welfare recipients from the state and increase in concealed permit holders, it will be interesting to see what happens with the crime stats.

drug tests should be banned however welfare frauds should have their ebt cards revoked in fact welfare should be abolished and those on it who are able should be made to work farming or manufacturing so they and others can buy necessities at reasonable cost ..that would eliminate welfare frauds and save the citizens plenty of money and those on it that can't work other welfare frauds should be made to farm and process food and chip in to maintain the truely indigent a place to live with running water and electric and meals on wheels and not that junk they serve them either imo ........this would create jobs and do away with welfare imo

If we joint our forces the politician will start taking our request for open carry more seriously...
