Hello All,

Florida permits are honored here. I don't think it matters what dl you have. Assuming you can still carry in Florida

South Carolina does not recognize non resident permits from other states. Since you are now a resident of SC, at best your FL permit is non resident. I think you'd be in trouble if caught carrying outside your home or car. Others may correct me, but I think that's the way it is. You can get your SC permit requirements done in one day...you'll still wait 3 months to get your permit, but actual classroom/range time can be completed in a day. If you're in the Grand Strand area I can recommend an excellent instructor.

Does your permit say 'resident permit'? I wonder if you're no longer a 'resident' of FL, that may void the permit?? You may want to check with the entity that issued the FL permit. I know FL can issue non-resident permits, you may want to check that route. Since you have an active FL permit, hopefully it wouldn't be a big deal to get issued a non-resident one.

Ok, SCTom just stated SC doesn't accept non-res permits..........gonna have to get a SC permit.

Most States, INCLUDING SOUTH CAROLINA, believe that if you've moved your residence into the State you should have your credentials (DL, Registration, notification info) changed within SIXTY days. This should rank in priority just behind getting the Utilities turned on, and talking to the school system regarding the kids.

Therefore, if you've given up the FL DL for the SC DL, there's no way to say SC Reciprocity permits your carry. Also, if you have no FL DL, you really don't have a viable FL Permit unless FL can verify/confirm that it is a Non-resident permit. Again; some priority should be given to the important stuff when one is contemplating a move.

I'd love to help.

Thank you all, Looks like i will be taking the cwp class before the year end. It's great to have a site where questions can actually be answered.

Sorry, once you got your SC DL you are no longer a Florida resident and SC does not recognize a CWP from any state unless you are a resident of that state. You're in limbo until you get your SC Concealed Carry Permit. Keep it in a closed console of your car until then.

I moved from TN to TX. I had a CCL in TN. When I changed my TN drivers license to a TX driver's license, the state of TN automatically made my TN CCL invalid. Apparently, the CCL was linked to my drivers license. I didn't know this until I was pulled over in Louisiana and the officer was kind enough to tell me my CCL was no longer valid (when he ran it) and only issued me a warning.

Ensure you update your address change with FLA Dept of Ag that issued. See link Replacement Licenses - Division of Licensing, FDACS

Fla does not require you to be res or non res just to have the correct address on file with them. This updated, you'll be fine in GA and other States that have agreement (Reciprocity). As for SC, you're not allowed to CC with this permit as stated above. Take the class, get educated and submit your paperwork to SLED. Take the time to read States statutes via online services. DO NOT TAKE ANYONE'S advice on this site without your independent confirmation via those online web sites. Link Removed
