Flashlight?

I had a flashlight. I loved my flashlight. After a month, I have finally given it up as vanished. However, I am also... um, financially challenged. (Other wants/needs are pressing as well, making budgeting and prioritizing difficult. Lots of things broke this winter. A couple that weren't vital to not dying still aren't fixed.) Inexpensive often means not so reliable, but are there any cheap flashlights out there that will hold me over for the next few (hopefully not several) months? I'm hesitant to buy the cheap ones without decent reviews (looking for $20 or under here), as that leads to buying 20 cheap flashlights trying to find one that works. If possible, I'd like a small one that I can have in my purse and on my nightstand. My vision sucks, so I'd hate to be without a flashlight if I need it. Anyone know of anything?

I suggest you get yourself a Streamlight Microstream Flashlight. It is an excellent flashlight that requires 1 AAA battery and the light it produces is excellent. I carry one at all times, it is small in size and very effective in all situations. This flashlight comes with a lanyard also, I usually wear the lanyard around my neck with the flashlight resting in my shirt pocket. These are available on ebay, between 15 to 20 dollar range. Get one, or two you will really like it. Here is a link for one with lanyard included Streamlight Microstream C4 LED AAA Pocket Flashlight 66318 080926663183 | eBay

I picked up one of these on Ebay for 35 bucks. it's not a pocket flashlight but I like the fact that it runs on 3 double As (common and cheap)

And I can tell you from experience it will throw a beam a block and a half

If you have an "Academy Sports" near you you probably can find something for around $20 that will suffice until you get in better financial shape. I saw a tac/carry light at our local store the other day for about $22. (200+ lumens too)

Luckily, purses are bigger than pockets. Extra good because women's pockets are not usually suited for actually putting things in them. I think the only purpose for most women's pockets (especially out here in the country) is to cover them in sparkly things.

The streamlight microstream is an awesome little light. I carry mine every day. It's only like 28 lumens, but good enough for most uses. It also uses a cost effective triple A battery. It's also right around the $20 price range.

The AAAx2 LED Mini Maglite is the bomb, Mini Maglite® LED 2-Cell AAA Flashlight . I bought several on ebay for 16.00 dollars each. The streamlight micro is a good flashlight and I have one but the mini mag out performs it with almost three times the light output (84 Lumens) and the beam is adjustable from wide to a almost a laser beam point and it is cheaper. The amount of light this mini mag puts out is amazing for its size. It doesn't have a button on the end so you have to twist the head to turn the light on which may be a deal breaker for some. It's a no frills single mode meaning no half power, SOS or strobe features which I find irritating. The only thing I would change on it if I could would be anti-roll notches on the head. I carry one of these in my vest, a very good light and the price is good.
If I'm going to be out after dark I will clip a larger light in my pants pocket support side.

Get a friend and go in together for a package of 3 duracell flashlights at Costco. Runs about $35 bucks and they are 500 lumens. They will light up the world. They have 3 settings, Bright, Really bright, and strobe from, um, heck. Also has a zoom feature. Great lights, have one on my boat, 2 in the house.

Study built so if you whacked someone with it, as Tommy Boy said, "That's gonna leave a mark".

I can't remember the last time I bought a flashlight, batteries or charger from anyplace other than Battery Junction. Their regular prices are always well below MSRP, and they always have some kind of sale going on, and not just for the junk or over-stock, but for the really good stuff too.

Here's a page showing the available TerraLUX brand lights. I have the Lightstar 80 ($19.99) and Lightstar 300 ($36.99). The 300 I have mounted on a shotgun that sees regular range practice use, but the light itself gets used very little. However, I always check to make sure it works after firing the shotgun and the shock hasn't damaged it at all after being on the weapon for two years or more, with probably in the neighborhood of 500 - 700 rounds being fired with it mounted.

The 80 on the other hand, gets almost daily usage. It's always in a jacket or jeans pocket when I go out, and I either use it or an Olight S20 Baton ($54.95) that I remember mentioning to you before awhile back, when I'm taking the dog out for a walk at night.

I've seen the 80 on sale at that site for $11.99 a bunch of times, and that's what I paid for mine. I think I paid $24.99 for my Lightstar 300, but not positive about that. You can subscribe to their email blasts and get notified of every sale they run before it starts. It usually works out to two or three emails per week, although you'd get more during Christmas season (what is that, like from June until Dec. 31st now? HA!).

The Olight S20 is my favorite all-time EDC light, but the TerraLUX Lightstar 80 is definitely in the Top 10, and that's Top 10 out of about 110 or so that I own now, not to mention the other couple of hundred that I've sold or traded off over the years of collecting.

Anyway, here's a couple of pics of the three I mentioned in this post. Hope it helps:

I remember the Olight, and I almost bought it, but then I found my old flashlight buried in the car a couple days later. It is, sadly, gone again... Fairly certain it's up in the mountains somewhere. I like the idea of having the pen clip, though... I could keep it from hiding itself in my purse much easier.

I'm also thinking of getting a small but very sturdy flashlight for my sister's birthday (in a few months). She won't use deadly force (and living in CA probably couldn't get a permit anyway), but she'll fight like a hellcat if need be. And frequently working in LA, she might need to. My old flashlight would have been perfect.

Got a link? I'd like to get in on that

I've been very happy with the surefires off eBay for around $12. 800 lumen, hi/ lo/ strobe #501B or the single mode with pressure switch. Very tough and blinding bright.

You bought a Surefire 800 Lumen flashlight on Ebay for 12.00? Sounds like a great deal. Got a link?

My apologies. It's the UltraFire. I've still been very happy with them. I have four of them with various uses. They are tough little lights and the rechargeable 4.2 volt battery seems to last for ever. That little Cree led will blind you.
