Got Beretta's?
Sorry if I offend anyone because of my insensitivity. But enough is enough.
The Federal Communications Commission is eyeing a proposal to tax broadband Internet service.

The move would funnel money to the Connect America Fund, a subsidy the agency created last year to expand Internet access.

EXCUSE ME!!!!! I pay and I pay big for MY Freaking Cell Phone. And I pay huge for my Internet.
I worked every day of my life since 10 days after graduating high school.
I only used Student Loans for Tuition and Books! Nothing else!
Payed everything off ahead of time.
I was stupid enough to save for retirement and now they want to take half of that away because (I didn't earn that)
How about my free Internet?

Connect America Fund MY ARSE!!!!!!
You want Internet for Free go to the Library.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they are trying to hand out free internet to deadbeats, but rather socialize the expanding of broadband access to more paying customers that live in remote parts of the country that don't currently have access. This would boost the economy a little bit by creating jobs and get people spending money on a better product. Of course everyone hates taxes, but sometimes when the money is managed well it can do a good thing, a couple dollars isn't going to hurt anyone who already pays $25-$80 or so on internet access.

Just my $0.02

Share the wealth. The more people connected the more society as a whole benefits. Hell, they might end up on this site.

This kind of attitude is what is getting us in trouble. Couple dollars here couple dollars there. Next thing you know we have a 16 trillion dollar deficit while we provide entitlements to people that have no intention of paying for it themselves. Free market capitalism will provide the same thing. Will some get left out? Probably, but even those that are left out can get on board if they really want to. Life isn't fare so get over it.

First off, tax money is very, very rarely managed well, especially on a federal level. Secondly, I do everything I can to minimize every bill that comes to me, because I simply cannot afford to pay any more than I am. A couple dollars extra on my internet bill most certainly WOULD hurt me. The only way I was able to afford my CCW class, permit and pistol was by working side jobs and putting as much of that money aside as I could live with. Took me over a year to save that up.

Speaking strictly about taxes, not the exorbitant Internet charges I pay, my wife and I already pay almost FIFTY PERCENT of our income in taxes! This needs to STOP! City income tax, state income tax, property tax, state sales tax, federal income tax SSN, Medicare, gasoline tax, telephone and Internet taxes, auto registration tax, new vehicle sales tax, building permit taxes, the list goes on and on and on.

OH, a prediction. As soon as the election is over in November, I'm sure you will be hearing about the VAT. Value Added Tax on sales and services. Introduced in England in 1973 at 10% it is now 20%. Now this VAT will be IN ADDITION to any state sales tax. Oh, they'll start it low, but it WON'T stay low.

Oh, I forgot. It's starting quiebecausekusethe electiontion, but coming soon to every state, the INTERNET SALES TAX! This will be based on your state sales tax, I think. If you don't have a state sales tax you will if you shop lineline.

Figure out how much you are paying in taxes.... not just federal tax... figure out ALL of your taxes, federal, state, local, sales, property, FCC, etc. Now ask yourself, if another tax worth it no matter what the "cause of the day" is? My answer, sir is a big "HELL NO"!!!!

Here's the problem OtisM... wealth mustn't be shared via taxes, for if it is, it is then forced charity through taxes... this of which violates an idividuals natural rights to his/her property(yes, money is property) and their ability to spend it as they choose. Charity is great! But only when it's volunteered! If it isn't... well, then it's not charity is it? I understand the desire to spread the knowledge and ability to gain access to it, but it mustn't be done this way... this leaves the door open for FAAAARRRRR too much to be "given" to people.

Remember, nothing is free, nothing. At some point, somebody is footing the bill... and while it may not be you at the moment, it may be one day... and you might not like it much.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe there's anything written in the US Constitution that gives the US Government the authority to establish a social security safety net with our tax dollars. Social security was a personal and/or charitable function until the market crash of the 1920's. Then some how the federal government decided it was up to them to provide the social security safety net. Now we have entitlements we can't afford and too many people tied to them to justify the need.

If the market sees a benefit to expanding broadband cable or fiber optics into area's where no body lives, then market will find a way with out tax dollars. It is called investment and taking risk.
This is just another typical sham.
It is the same as the Free Cell Phone debacle.
Flowery sounding goals to keep the votes and the power.
What does the FCC have to do with broadband anyway? I thought they ruled the airways.
Did the government hang all those cables and wires? NO! They didn't build that.

The Social Security Safety Net has then progressed into a full blown Pension System for people that don't work.
Remember it is called SSI Supplemental Security Income.
