My wife and I are going to be traveling from Texas to Albuquerque, New Mexico for a vacation in a couple weeks. We will be traveling between Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos over the course of several days, and I plan on bringing my CCW along on the trip. While I have my Texas CHL and CC'ed for a few years now, I am, for all intents and purposes, a virgin when it comes to air travel with a CCW and CCW carry in New Mexico. Since it will be my first time flying with a CCW, I'm not sure what to expect as far as delays associated with checking the firearm, etc. I will say that I will be keeping my CCW unloaded and secured in a Nanovault in my checked baggage. Are there any tips that you folks can give me regarding NM CCW laws or things to be wary of? Can I fly with extra mags secured in my Nanovault with my unloaded CCW? Do the mags have to be in the Nanovault or can they just be kept in my checked bag? Is it more difficult to fly with full size guns rather than a pocket gun (I can carry my BG380 instead of the PX4, but I would prefer the higher caliber/capacity weapon)? I have learned that my full size PX4 will travel in my Nanovault with two 17rd. mags perfectly. I will call the airline if needed, but tell me that I can check my luggage on the plane that way. Additionally, we are spending a couple nights at a casino located in a pueblo. I have already contacted the pueblo police about protocols for CCWs. I was told that I could keep it secured in my vehicle during the stay, but if I didn't keep it in the vehicle (if I felt that it wasn't fully secure, risk of being stolen, etc.), I would have to turn the gun over to the pueblo police for the duration of our stay, since CCWs are not permitted outside of vehicles in the pueblo. All of the posts and online documents I can find about NM CCW carry are from several years ago, and I really don't want to unknowingly violate the carry laws. TIA for the help.

Nope, they pulled a Bank of America and changed their mind when the word came out initially and the public responded to the idea. They are currently "reviewing reciprocity agreements" but are still recognizing the previously reciprocal states for now.

NM has pretty decent laws, but one odd one is you can not have more than one ccw on you at at time. Definitely be carefully at the pueblo. They can pretty much set any law they want. No requirement for standard criminal process.
NM recognizes your TX CCW, so you should have no problems. Call you airline and ask them 'their' procedures for your baggage check-in and how they handle your safe/vault with regard to your luggage. Rules DO vary slightly from airline to airline. When I have flown and taken my gun, my nano vault was airline aprooved, I have a metal engraved name tag riveted to the cover, so they cannot say they lost my nano due to a tag missing just in case it falls out of my luggage after they have inspected it and put it in my luggage. I hope your trip is flawless, flying with a weapon is easy, just check with them about their rules and you should be good to go.
Well, carry TWO nano vaults, thats what I do. One for the gun and one for mags, works for me. And get a couple rings put into your luggage, use the type that have rivets, so you can use the cables to secure the vault in your luggage. Ah, another XDm owner, LOVE mine, great gun. When I am not carrying my XDm, I scale down to a Taurus PT-709 Slim 9mm, I can get 3 mags and the gun in the nano. No shame about carrying something smaller, better to have it than no gun at all.
I think you just gave me a "reason" to buy a single stack 9mm (the S&W Shield comes to mind)....I "MUST" buy one for those times where I need a higher caliber weapon than a pocket .380, where deep pocket, uber-concealability isn't absolutely necessary, but better ease of air transport than a full size weapon is necessary. That's freakin' genius!!! Now, to get the wife's stamp of approval on my newly "required" hand gun. No way it's gonna happen before the trip (I just bought my BG380 six weeks ago), but I will remember this rationale for my future purchase.

As far as spending time on a reservation goes, you'll have to go by the pueblo police
rules. They can make any rule they wish.
As far as the rest of the state of New Mexico goes, the rules are similar to the
rules in Texas, except for two major differences.
One, you can only carry one concealed weapon at a time. If you feel the need to
carry more than one weapon, only one can be concealed.
Two, you can not carry a weapon into a restaurant that has a license to sell
liquor or wine, no matter what percentage of their business is alcohol related.
There are other differences, but I have found those two to be the greatest.

You may carry concealed into a restaurant that serves beer & wine ( no hard liquor) and the revenue exceeds 60% for food sales.
