I'm thinking of purchasing a KIMBER PRO CRIMSON CARRY II 4" W/ LASER GRIPS as my first pistol. Any thoughts on this or an alternative are welcome. Thanks in advance.

congrats on getting the permit, as we all know they are hard to come by in NY, but as far as what you should buy only you can make that answer. sure we can all say get this or that, but in the end its what works best over all for YOU. if you can go to a place that will let you rent guns toshoot and shoot alot of them, shoot them a few times. granted i just jumped into buying a S&W M&P .40 wihtout shooting it, but ive shot glocks, owned a org springfield XD (first year of the model) and currently carry a XD-subcompacy .40 so they all about fit me the same. kimber is a great choice (wish i owned one) but in the end you need that fits and works the best for you. we have a lot of people that are a great help here, so read everything you can.

best of luck!

I think it's an excellent choice! I chose the Kimber Super Carry Pro that rides comfortably in a custom Kramer IWB holster. I've had many customers select the Pro Crimson Carry II and then have the Meprolight sights added. Crimson Trace grips are excellent for defensive shooting but they are also great for dry fire drills. Just don't become one of those folks that forget to practice aiming the regular way!

great choice

I love my Kimber Ultra Carry from their custom shop with my laser grips. Beautiful, fits my hand perfect, and excellent quality! I have the Kimber Ultra CDP II from their custom shop! I love it. Just as much a show piece as a carry piece! Gotta get it broken in before I carry it though. I just got it.

Correction, permits are NOT hard to come by in NY. Where does this come from? Please don't further the myth. I'm in the permit business and find these statments to be false.

Permits in NYS

I wouldn't say it was hard getting my permit but I live in a rural Upstate county with a VERY pro-ccw judge. I was encouraged to apply for "no restrictions" and was granted the same. Counties on all sides have many more restrictions. It's not about the permit (except for the time fame 7-8 months) but the comfort level with full ccw. People ask me why I did it and my response is "what're the chances anyone can get a ccw permit with no restrictions in NYS in 5 years? My belief is 'not good.'"
