First Concealed Carry Experience Today

My husband hardly ever carries his & he used 2 give me grief saying leave it at home, in car ect, when we go here or there. But he finally gave up on that cause he now knows I am always armed. He got his CCW when I did because I did. Most of the time I carry my Ruger LCP very accurate for a .380. I want an LC9 & will probably get one this spring. I have IWB & a Sneaky Pete holster . Like the SP. I have a .45 but find myself comfortable with the smaller gun.

Welcome to Carry.

Could your husband NOT carrying be a sign that he trusts you to be the protector? I'm just sayin'!

First, congratulations on your first CC event, I suppose.

I'll play the Devil's advocate here,, just cause it's so much fun. And don't think I'm trying to pop your bubble, but....

Not knowing where you hail from (isn't it amazing how many members don't put that little tidbit in their profile?) I don't know what you local and or state laws are pertaining to large 'official government gatherings'. Considering it was a "state of the City" gathering as you describe it, there is a better than average possibility that you could have encountered an unusually curt LEO that could have been charged with protecting the City Officials that were in attendance.

I'm not saying you did wrong. I AM saying that prior to attending said functions, especially your "first time carrying" it would behoove you to check the law pertaining to said government gatherings.

All that having been said, what did you expect to have happen? If you're concealed well there shouldn't be any interaction. And you sure don't want to walk up to the city councilman and say "Hey! Look at my neat new holster!". Kind of defeats the reason for CC.

I've been hiding an XD40 in a Supertuck for a while now and it is a very good holster. It still pulls on the pants a little. One thing that can help especially in formal attire is the use of spaghetti strap suspenders in conjunction with the belt. The suspenders are light enough that they are completely unnoticed if the jacket remains on. A bit of advise is to choose wisely the vest you wear. I went to a local tailor and had the right rear quarter 'hemmed high' so my draw would not be interfered with.

And you girls think you're the only ones with wardrobe issues!

Eventually the notoriety of you wearing will wain as you wear every day. Soon you will develop the feeling that something is missing when you don't don your rig in the morning.

Welcome to the club. You are surrounded by a distinct crowd!

Addendum: Just saw this post from you.

Ignore what I said about the formal attire. I thought you were speaking of a formal event.

A good gun belt is useful with the Crossbreed.

It had occured to me, too, that the formal event might be a tricky one but I had assumed he was familiar with local laws. But better to ask!

Appreciate the expressions of concern, and yes, it is fun to play devil's advocate...

But, this was an event put on by the regional business journal, to which were invited several county executives and the local city mayor.

If I had walked in there like a doofus open carrying, I'd expect some problems. But, as it was, the whole "concealed carry" thing worked just fine and no laws were broken.

My G26 was tucked very discreetly into my pants, covered by a dress shirt, and a sweater vest and then I had my sport jacket on over everything as well.

If they had metal detectors and signs saying, "No guns permitted past this point" I would not have carried my gun into the function.

As for the "what did you expect to happen"? Answer: Nothing.

Is this the time now for me to yell, "Troll!" That seems to be a popular thing to do around these parts.

: )

We were just looking out for you, buddy :yes2:

Actually, about the TROLL thing, if you WERE a troll this would be where you admit that you are not a 21 year old cheerleader that works as a pole dancer on the side and has a concealed carry question

Congrats and welcome! I have been carrying concealed since 1992 and have tried many different methods, IWB, OWB, Pocket, etc. I have a drawer full of holsters to prove it! OWB is the most comfortable bar none. I also pocket carry my j-frame revolvers or S&W Bodyguard .380. In Spring, Winter and Fall, I wear a black North Face vest size L and carry my 1911 owb. Absolutely nobody can tell I am carrying. I also look like every other joe wearing the North Face vest. In this dress mode you can dress up or dress down, business casual, whatever. Do yourself a favor and skip the tactical look.....save that for the range.

I never carry my pistol on my person when I'm driving. It usually sits on the passenger seat (covered by something) if I'm alone

Really bad idea - if you have to slam on the brakes or get into an accident, that gun is going to go flying. Remember the FBI shootout in FL in '86? One of the agents had that very thing happen, IIRC.

Hm, yeah, might I politely suggest considering a car holster?

I love this thread...it is very entertaining to say the least. Some of you guys really cracked me up laughing...thanks my making my day...

:stop:Time to cook...gotta goooooo...........

I made a holster that sits down beside my center console in my truck..I will put her there when driving.

Its always good to hear about another law abiding citizen carrying concealed.

But you should be carrying for self protection because the 2nd Amendment doesn't presently apply to concealed carry outside the home.

And the distinction is very important, least you become complacent about your state's laws that presently secure your right to carry concealed outside the home.

Those against concealed carry outside the home are working hard to eliminate those laws. Until we get a more expanded scope of the 2A in the courts, we can't rely on the 2A and must stay ever vigilant of the state laws that secure our rights in the present.
