First Concealed Carry Experience Today

Today was the first day I strapped on my Glock 26 and set out for my first concealed carry experience. I decided to go big, or go home, so I attended a "state of the city" presentation at a large downtown hotel ballroom, with about 1,000 people there and the chief government officials of several counties and our city in our metropolitan region, in fact, I was seated about twenty feet from the podium.

Once I got my Galco KingTuk IWB on, it was very comfortable and I really did not feel the weight, in fact, it seemed to keep my pants up better. Riding in the car? Not so comfortable.

Had no problems walking or moving around with the IWB on, sitting through the breakfast, etc. When I got to work, the IWB was uncomfortable in my office chair, so I took it off and took the gun to the car and locked it up.

It was a strange but good feeling knowing I was exercising my 2A rights as fully as possible, for the first time.

Soon enough you will not feel right going places without your gun on your belt. Try putting your gun crossdraw on your belt when sitting in your office chair. It makes sitting down for long periods of time a lot easier. Then you wont be tempted to disarm and put your gun in your car where it becomes worthless.

Congrats on carrying.
Practice often - carry everywhere. You might want to try moving that closer to 3 pm. to take the handle out of your kidney. Works for me.

When I first got my CB SuperTuck I fell in love with it. Then I got bored and just had to mess with the cant. Wow, I liked that even better. I decided to change the cant again and to move the position of the front clip from one side of my belt loop to the other. Yet another improvement.

Long way of saying, you have a good holster. Try it one way for awhile then try something different for a time. Make small changes then give yourself a chance to assess the difference. Eventually you will find what works best for you. Welcome to the community.

You gotta love winter -- you do not have to IWB -- just cover up with a coat. I used to practice IWB at home where I have the ability to adjust to different locations and chairs, sit and stand up, hurt my rib, move it to somewhere else comfortable, all those sort of things. I just hate it when I do not have my gun with me. But then what do I know...I don't have a gun.

I'll echo what others have said. After a little time you will feel funny when it is not there. Remember, Being armed is not always comfortable, but it is always comforting!

The Crossbreeds a great holster but your gun, even though its Glocks smallest, is still a fairly good size for all day concealment especialy with a inside wast rig, you may want to try a little smaller weapon, don't get rid of the glock, but look at one of the small 380s, Taurus and Ruger have some good examples the LCP and Taurus TCP, but they are small and tough to shoot accuratly, I recently purchased a Bersa 380, about half the size of the Glock but still big enough to shoot good, and its super accurate for a 380, capable of quarter size groups at 5-7yds, if you try, now keep in mind I am not advocating any perticular brand gun, of any size but a 380 in the pocket is much better than a 9mm in the car,...... personaly I have tryed to train myself to carry the largest weapon I can at least semi comfortably, but sitting at a desk all day is tough with a setup like you have, this is why most plain clothes LEOs/Detectives use shoulder rigs

Carry on!!!

Pay attention to details. It takes like a whole year for you to get really comfy. Get a nice carry belt. That is your foundation. A good belt and good holster can never be too much$$.

Actually, the jeans I was wearing fit me very loosely, so it felt pretty good from that perspective, in fact, helped me keep my jeans up! I think I'll try the 3 position next time.

I have a Crossbreed IWB holster, primarily for summer time carry because I otherwise carry OWB. I carry a M&P .45...big gun with a big grip and the Crossbreed holster is ridiculously comfortable. I carry at 3 o clock and can get in the car and it it still feels great. Total cost was around $70 for the cowhide option. Worth every penny. It allows me to carry and maintain a big caliber even in the summer with cargo shorts and t shirt on. But holsters are like shoes, sometimes you have to try on a few pairs to get the right one!

In my opionion...inside the waistband is a pain. That's how I carried in my 20s, but now as I head toward my 40s that pesky spare tire gets in the way. (Maybe I need more time in the gym...but that's another story.)

These days I go pretty much outside the waistband only, at about 3:30. I'm building a wardrobe of sport jackets, lightweight vests, and camp shirts with longer tails. Although with a lighter or shorter cover garment, I'm much more likely to be carrying my .38 than my .45...

carry

I always feel naked when I dont have something strapped to my side, this feeling comes with time and familiarity, lucky for me my work requires me to carry a radio, which fills that void of something there, but if i ever have to draw at work all i'll have is something to throw :( would be nice if i could carry at work.

That could have ended up turning out badly for you i.m.h.o.
Why play with fire?

I never carry my pistol on my person when I'm driving. It usually sits on the passenger seat (covered by something) if I'm alone or in the center console if I have a passenger. IMO it's much easier to access the pistol this way as opposed to trying to get it off my person while I'm buckled in.

In any case, congrats and welcome to the club.

My husband hardly ever carries his & he used 2 give me grief saying leave it at home, in car ect, when we go here or there. But he finally gave up on that cause he now knows I am always armed. He got his CCW when I did because I did. Most of the time I carry my Ruger LCP very accurate for a .380. I want an LC9 & will probably get one this spring. I have IWB & a Sneaky Pete holster . Like the SP. I have a .45 but find myself comfortable with the smaller gun.

Welcome to Carry.

First, congratulations on your first CC event, I suppose.

I'll play the Devil's advocate here,, just cause it's so much fun. And don't think I'm trying to pop your bubble, but....

Not knowing where you hail from (isn't it amazing how many members don't put that little tidbit in their profile?) I don't know what you local and or state laws are pertaining to large 'official government gatherings'. Considering it was a "state of the City" gathering as you describe it, there is a better than average possibility that you could have encountered an unusually curt LEO that could have been charged with protecting the City Officials that were in attendance.

I'm not saying you did wrong. I AM saying that prior to attending said functions, especially your "first time carrying" it would behoove you to check the law pertaining to said government gatherings.

All that having been said, what did you expect to have happen? If you're concealed well there shouldn't be any interaction. And you sure don't want to walk up to the city councilman and say "Hey! Look at my neat new holster!". Kind of defeats the reason for CC.

I've been hiding an XD40 in a Supertuck for a while now and it is a very good holster. It still pulls on the pants a little. One thing that can help especially in formal attire is the use of spaghetti strap suspenders in conjunction with the belt. The suspenders are light enough that they are completely unnoticed if the jacket remains on. A bit of advise is to choose wisely the vest you wear. I went to a local tailor and had the right rear quarter 'hemmed high' so my draw would not be interfered with.

And you girls think you're the only ones with wardrobe issues!

Eventually the notoriety of you wearing will wain as you wear every day. Soon you will develop the feeling that something is missing when you don't don your rig in the morning.

Welcome to the club. You are surrounded by a distinct crowd!

Addendum: Just saw this post from you.

Ignore what I said about the formal attire. I thought you were speaking of a formal event.

A good gun belt is useful with the Crossbreed.

I feel naked when I go somewhere without my weapon. At the workplace I can't carry in the building and it feels extremely weird. I love to carry and will continue to do so
