Firearm collection REBOOT

Here is a hypothetical question for all of us firearms enthusiasts:

If you suddenly had no guns (suppose they were all destroyed by a meteor), make a list of what you would get to restart your collection and in what order.

Here is my answer (off the top of my head):

1. Glock 19

2. AK-47 (with modernized furniture)

3. Ruger 10/22

4. 12 gauge pump-action shotgun (probably a Mossberg 500 Mariner or a Mossberg Flex)

5. S&W Model 360PD (a scandium framed, SA/DA, J-frame revolver, chambered in .357)

6. A bolt-action hunting rifle (chambered in .300 win mag or .30-06)

7. AR-15

In my case, I only own one gun so this is very close to my actual shopping list.

blowgun, with darts dipped in curare. If you don't have the ammo for those new guns now.......well, lets see what happens next.

I have a bad habit of losing mine in tragic boating accidents, but I wouldn't change a thing in the line up and course that I already took other than to not have wasted money on a Mini14 and went straight to the AR-15. I had to practically give it away to get rid of it.

Mossberg 702 Plinkster, AR-15, Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 (with a bit of work done to it.), and a Springfield XDM 40 4.5".

I do lots of research and buy for a purpose, not just because I think something looks cool. They all have a purpose and a different use for me, and I choose quality over quantity. I might have switched out the Remington 700 with an AR-10 since the total amount I have into it is more than an AR-10 (plus magazines are $80/ea for my 700), but either way I'm happy and I don't think I could have gotten the accuracy out of the AR-10 I get with the 700 without spending some good money, either.

I posted this in a thread about Pistol Caliber Carbines

gunnerbob touched on a good point.

While pistol caliber carbines aren't optimal they do have a place and they can do a lot to simplify your supply chain if you’re on a tight budget.

I’m not a GLOCK owner so I don’t know model numbers but if I recall GLOCK makes a sub compact pistol and a full size pistol for which the full sized magazines are interchangeable and will fit in a pistol caliber carbine. You can purchase all three and have three guns for which you only need to buy 1 type of magazine and one type and caliber of round.

If CZ ever comes out with a pistol caliber carbine in .40 S&W that takes 75B magazines I’ll be on it like Jillian Michaels on a fat chick.

And I think it applies here as well. If I had to do it over again I’d place a lot of emphasis on compatibility. I’d do everything in my power to only have to buy 1 caliber of round and one type of magazine.

Possibly I’d add a .44 lever action rifle and a .44 handgun for hunting and I’d look into a .22 conversion kit for the pistol and a bolt action .22 rifle for plinking.

My safes are meteor proof. Not to mention I live here with my firearms and if they where to be destroyed I would likely be gone as well. Another reason to keep some in your cars and I have a safe at my mothers home as well for my safe queens ( collector stuff ) just in case..

All my firearms were recently destroyed by a meteor. It happened on November 6 right after the election results came in. The destruction may not be complete but it will be shortly either directly or thru the UN. I intend to begin replacing everything with an AR, another AR, another AR and maybe with an AR. Sorry for hijack of an interesting subject.
Back to thread: I would change nothing and replace with my FN5.7X28 and my pump 18 inch shotgun

Now I need to take out some meteor insurance... Ugh...
HK USP .40
Sig P232
Ruger 10/22
Remington 870 combo
Springfield M1A
Browning Buckmark
AR 15 variant (gas piston. Probably Ruger.)
S&W Model 66
Glock 19
300 win mag, bolt action

If I had to adhere to your selection, I think i would move the 10-22 up to top of the list.

Other than the meteor strik (had to be devastating!) there was no scenario introduced. But if a meteror did strike, I might be hunting for foor and that is where the 10-22 comes in.

I have a habit of looking at most things from a survival standpoint and I thing I'd go for fast personal defense (your Glock) and then food (small game and such) the 10-22. Plus the 10-22 is easy to feed, very reliable and fairly easy to maintain.

I know it's not my thread but here's a scenario I've not only seen but expect to see crop up more frequently on gun boards as we go on.

Lost your job had to sell off almost your entire collection to make rent/mortgage. Now have a job and want to start rebuilding.

You may be right about the change of scenario. There is a high probability that we will see the ranks of unemployed swell.

But given the getting back on my feet... I would not have given up the personal defense guns and if I'm scraping to get started, new purchases would be low on the list of needy things. Probably be looking at getting back up to speed on the mortgage and utilities and monthly operating bills before I would be looking at "spare" guns.

But when I did get back to speed, and I really did get desperate enough to do it in the first place, I'd want to try and get the Garand back.

If I had to start over, with I assume limited funds... but required that these firearms cover the broad spectrum of defense, hunting and SHTF...

Kel-Tec Sub 2000 9mm

Glock 19

So, again... this is assuming limited funds so buying minimum arms. These two weapons are chambered for the same round and accept the same magizines. The Sub 2000 folds in half for storage in packs for travel... I hate Glocks, but... well, y'know. With the proper loads, namely +P+ 147gr within 75-100yds the Sub 2000 is capable of dropping game up to the size of small deer(using an optic no doubt).

If I had more $$, I'd add in a 10/22... an AK47, 12ga pump and a .308 Rem 700.

1. XD (9mm) Carry weapon / Home defense
2. Mid sized revolver (38 / 357) Carry weapon
3. Shotgun (870) for home defense
4. 10/22 for plinking and training
5. Win Mag or comparable (in case I need to "reach out n touch someone")
6. AR variant
7. Bug Gun, NAA Mini Mag, LCP, etc...
