Fire Extinguisher / Self Defense Weapon

A great Self Defense weapon is a Fire Extinguisher. It can be used, anywhere! The 5 Lb. unit by Kidde can shoot out white powder over 15 feet on a 10" Target pattern. You can carry one in your car, on a front seat or stuck next to it, it is 50 State Legal. The powder will incapacitate an attacker by making him , unable to breath , see or even hear anything. It can be found in any public place or store. Sometimes you have to adapt and use what you have available to you at that moment. Besides you never know when you may need it to put out a Fire!

This is a GREAT Idea! My wife carries one in her car (luckily has never had to use it). After incapacitating the attacker, you can use this as a club to further incapacitate and get away from the area.
I know I would have second thoughts about going after a P!$$ed off woman, after being blinded and bludgeoned.

Agreed. Great idea. Thank you.

Maybe I should perfect self-defense techniques and offer classes.

Of course, to practice, we'll use a scarecrow by setting it on fire (in a controlled environment, of course).
The method of setting it on fire is the scarecrow holding a MP3 player w/speaker playing "Come on, Baby, Light my Fire!" and ya then toss a match on 'em.

Gee, I'll dunno, I might hafta to a live demonstration or something before the local City Shmouncil to get my business license ... guess I better start practicin'...

I've carried a fire extinguisher in all my vehicles since around the mid-80's. I've stepped out of the car to help stranded people (carrying the extinguisher just in case there was an unnoticed vehicle fire.)

1) It would indeed make a handy bludgeoning weapon.
2) Although I might not advocate spraying it in the face, the sound and fury can make an effective smokescreen.
3) Because fire extinguishers are sometimes used to extinguish people that are on fire (and you never know, you might think your attacker is on fire) there's no federal labeling admonishing against the use of a fire extinguisher on people. If you absolutely Must improvise a weapon, having to use the safety equipment already in your hands should be "court safe".

When I was 9 years old, I found a guy climbing in our Kitchen window. I grabbed a 5lb. Fire Extinguisher and emptied its contents on his face and head. The distance was aproximately 10-12 ft. and it was highly effective. The man was incapacitated as a threat in the first seconds of the white powder spraying into his eyes, mouth, nose, ears. I later found out that he was armed with a 357 Magnum, that was scarry. He could not get his breath back and had to be hospitalized. The point is, the Fire Extinguisher is a highly effective weapon, if used correctly, it is legal to carry one in your car, in all 50 states. Spend the money to try one out, you will realize that dollar for dollar, nothing else will put down an Armed Man at 10-15 ft and not get you arrested, is Kid friendly and Safe. I still carry my firearm, but my fire extinguisher is a good first line of defense, for the whole Family, even my 7 year old Son, D.J. has practiced the use of one.

Its not just Extinguishers that can be use as a alternative weapon, a spray can of automotive carb/brake parts cleaner will stop somebody fast, as fast as pepper spray, even dishwash soap in the eyes will put the hurt on a BG

Rocketgeezer, would you carry those in the front of your car and do they have the ability to shoot a powerful, concentrated spray for 10-15 ft for aproximately 30 seconds? It is illegal to have flamable aerosol cans of automotive spray in the car in many places, for the reason of , you could start a fire!
