Finding CCW data by state

I am working on a paper and I have been trying to track down some hard data on the number of CCW permits vs the number of gun realted deaths and show that an increase in CCW does not show an increase in gun realted death. But I just can' seem to find the data I am looking for. Anyone have any suggestion?

I would look on the attorney general or public safety sites of the individual state. Two things bother me about your research: 1. You have decided before you gathered data what you want to demonstrate. 2. The data required is vast and scattered in many different places as well as being kept in forms not easily compared. You would need a staff to do the searching or at least to assist you.

I suggest that unless you are working on your PhD, you should narrow the scope of your research. I would love to see the data, however, catalogued catagorically and weighted so that one state can easily be compared to another.

It's already been proven and been published in many papers and magazines and on the net.As posted above, you need to look a little harder.

Here is an article quoted from the Detroit Free Press (published 2008) that might help you locate Michigan-specific info:

1/08 CCW In Michigan Up, Crime Down - Gun Owners Of America

"John Lott, a visiting professor at the University of Maryland who has done extensive research on the role of firearms in American society, said the results in Michigan since the law changed don't surprise him.

Academic studies of concealed weapons laws that generally allow citizens to obtain permits have shown different results, Lott said. About two-thirds of the studies suggest the laws reduce crime; the rest show no net effect, he said.

But no peer-reviewed study has ever shown that crime increases when jurisdictions enact changes like those put in place by the Legislature and then-Gov. John Engler in 2000, Lott said."

In Michigan, according to Michigan State Police data, since greater access to concealed carry licenses was approved by voters in 2001 (and Michigan became a "shall issue" state), violent crimes have diminished by 14% - a fact that some "experts" try to say cannot be conclusively tied to the increase in CCWs issued. But those same "experts" point to the gun free school zone act and absolutely wet themselves with joy because school-related incidents are supposedly down by a whole 2% since the GFSZA was first enacted in 1990 - something they claim is a direct result of the GFSZA. As they say, figures never lie, but.....

Call the NRA ILA. They have all stats you'll need. Look at the NRA website, then click on page for ILA. You should be able to find contact info there for someone to speak with.

Geez, it took me about .25 seconds to find this site: Link Removed

I used this new-fangled thing called Google....
