Been doing some research on FFL Transfer costs in NY as I'm about to do a couple. Was hoping some fellow NY'rs with experience doing this can give me some advice and what to expect. Are there any unseen issue I should be aware of like?

• Are there any unseen cost outside of the shipping, transfer cost and registration?
• State tax. Is that something the buyer pays another state or NY state or neither? I've read that Transfers are NOT taxable in NY.

Here are some gun shops policies I live near:

Tri-County Shooter
Tri-County Sporting Goods

Joe will not do any transfers.

Master Class
Master Class Shooters Supply - HOME

Richie has quoted me anywhere from $75 - $100 for a transfer. Why the price range? Hard to say besides greed. He told me it depended on whether or not a gun was a pistol or rifle and then whether or not it was a SA or a DA. Sounds idiotic as he would not give me a solid quote on a SA pistol. They will not transfer in anything from Buds and Char Arms or Arm Charter.

Davis Shooting Sporting
Davis Shooting Sports Indoor Range Goshen NY

Dennis and Mark independently quoted $50 for any transfer. HA! THEY JUST CHANGED THEIR PRICE TO $100 FOR A NEW GUN AND $50 FOR A USED ONE. UNBELIEVABLE! THEY ALSO REQUIRE THE SELLER TO CONTACT THEM AND EXCHANGE FFL NUMBERS ON THE PHONE. NO EMAIL OR FAX.

UPDATE: They honored the original $50 quote, but I believe it is $100 for a new pistol from now on.

Here's a good site which says transfer fees in NY are typically $25:
Average cost for an FFL transfer?

I would obvious welcome any and all recommendations on another honest FFL in NY's Lower Hudson Valley...

They may not do a transfer but they might price match.

Before I buy online, I ask my LGS if they will price match an internet ad. So far, they have done so.

Transfer fees will probably be whatever the FFL decides. In upstate central NY they run about $ 35 to $ 50, with some charging higher. Your location has a direct bearing on this. A few years back, we werre charging $ 35.00 for an NRA Basic Pistol course up here. A fellow from Long Island called, wanted to take the course, I asked why up here -- Cost was $ 350
down on Long Island. -- Whatever the traffic will bear - Caveat emptor!

All of the LGS I quoted above do not have the items I am searching for. They also cannot get them. All of them checked and these are not extremely rare or atypical orders.
I'm also getting really tired of hearing it's Obama's fault. Seriously, I want an item not an excuse.
Please don't justify this here for political reasons. Seriously. I don't want to hear it.

I just want a fair deal. At a fair cost.
Then again, if you live in NY and want to vent about Bloomberg, I'm all for it. 100%.
