FBI data show thousands of gun sales beat checks

We deal with the FDLE which does the checks. In 2 years we've only ever had one outright denial. And with it they wanted a current address. Not something they ask for on a "conditional no" or an "approval". As an FFL, we can sell after three days of no denial. We also can hold the sale for up to the full 30 days that a 4473 is good for. Or we can decide no sale at all anytime from day one to day 30. Our policy is that if we don't know the person, "conditional no" means "no", period, if not approved by day 30.

John Lott has responded to this claim, says the real problem is how background checks keep some law abiding citizens from getting the firearms they need.

Virtually the only people who are stopped from buying guns by the current background check system are law-abiding citizens who were mistakenly prevented from buying a gun. If the background check system is missing a few names, it really only means that there will be fewer false positive cases where law-abiding citizens are stopped from buying a gun because they have a name that is similar to someone that the government really wanted to stop. Mistakes that prevent some law-abiding citizens from quickly getting guns when needed for protection cause real harm to people's safety and this needs to be acknowledged.

Funny how we don't read any stories about the police going out to confiscate all these guns from all these people they claim are illegal to possess them....

Except in California and New York where their firearms registration allows them to.

Guess what. That denial can also tip off the potential buyer to other problems with a person with the same name. I would not have known there was a problem in Orange County, Florida if I hadn't had to sign a Not Same Person form when buying property there.

From the article posted it appears to me the problem isn't background checks per say. It's more the system is flawed and needs to be fixed. Requiring more back ground checks will make a flawed system even more flawed. NICS was created in 1998 because of a special interest group demanding something be done to curb gun violence. Now here we are 16 years later same special interest group demanding something be done about gun violence. My how we have progressed. :sarcastic: Interesting how we managed to survive with no back ground checks to buy a gun for more then 200 years.Maybe it's time to take a look at what causes good people to do bad things. Could it have anything to do with our decaying society, lack of respect for human life, sense of entitlement, political correctness,.......?

That is why I always give them my ssn. What the hell...they know I am the one buying the gun whether I give them an ssn or not. They know where I live and they probably know all the times I shot my mouth off on internet forums. As my wife said...I want them to know we are buying firearms.
