Erie County......still waiting.

I got my permit letter and bought my pistol. Went down and got my photo taken and thumb print, gave them the reciept for the pistol, etc. That was almost NINE weeks ago. Still no permit. It will be one year next month since I turned in my application at the pistol permit office. This is total BS. All this for a hunting / target permit.

Total cost is getting pretty high. $50 for safety course, $110 for application fee, $20 to turn in my paperwork, Finegrprint fee, parking downtown in Buffalo, time off from work to do this during business hours, postage, photograph costs, etc.

I can't wait until health care is run like this.

It's a lifetime permit, it's a major plus.Nassau, Suffolk, Westcheste,r NYC require a renewal every 3-5 years with a large fee to boot.

I feel like I've been waiting a lifetime to get my permit. Don't give them any ideas on renewal fees. It's coming here soon, I'm sure of it. Hopefully I'll be relocated out of state by then.

It is already being kicked around by legislators. Unfortunately, there is a huge back log in many if not all counties with issuing pistol permits. While it is aggravating, it is a lifetime permit. Be patient and it will come as long as a judge issues you a permit. The judge's docket includes actual criminal cases and pistol permits. Rightly so, criminal cases take priority. Sooner or later, your permit will come if you are qualified.

Yes, these poor public servants work so hard! If you saw what I saw at the pistol permit office, you'd know these delays are by design. These governemnt slugs were all walking around eating cookies and looking up jokes on the internet while there was a line of people waiting. They already approved my permit. I'm waiting for a card to be printed out. It's funny how other states can issue a permit in just a few weeks while this state, with its bloated government, can't seem to issue one in less than a YEAR. Plus the fact that I was treated like a criminal by everyone in government during this whole application process.

Wait until health care is run like this!

I would not hesitate to report that type of taxpayers waste.

Another week goes by........still no permit. Week #10 since it was approved and I bought my pistol. Still no permit and my brand new pistol sits at the gun shop.

WTF! the permit was approved but deny giving it to you after 10 weeks.Something is odd, once the judge approves your permit you get your pistol permit and a purchase document for your new gun.Erie county does it way different from other counties.I would call to find out, something happened.

I got my "Congratulations! You have been approved for a NY Pistol Permit" letter TEN WEEKS AGO. I went to the gun store with the letter, bought the gun, and took the receipt downtown to the pistol permit office. They took my photo and thumbprint plus another $20 fee and said "you'll get your permit in another two months". The clerk was scowling at me the whole time and everyone treated me like a criminal during this whole procedure.

The guy at the gun shop told me this was common in Erie county. He also said that if I complain about the delay, the worthless government slugs will remove my permit from the pile and bury it for another few months as punishment. I don't know if this is true but that's what he told me. He also told me that my permit was approved real fast! Most are waiting well over a year just to get the stupid letter.

Week #10 and still no permit as of today. Week #11 starts Monday. Next month will be one year since I submitted my paperwork.

13 months here... still don't even have a letter, and as far as I know it JUST made it downtown, but I am not 100% sure on that. They contacted my references months ago, but last time I called ECPP, it was not there yet... and after the attitude I got from the lady there, I told her exactly where she could shove it, so I am not hot on calling back again. Erie county is such a waste of oxygen...

Always be polite, that lady there could have put the kabash on you getting a permit. The clerks office is very important in the process.Handgun applications are up in almost every county since 2008.You got a bad deal if she mis-placed your file.

I'm giving it until next week and them I'm filing a complaint with the County Clerk. Not only for the delay BUT the way I am being treated by these worthless government slobs working in this office. Someone needs to be FIRED here but that will never happen. I've been nothing but polite and patient with these people and they are rude and lazy beyond description. I hear Kathy Hochul will listen and possibly take action but how much she can do to motivate these slugs is questionable. Here's her contact info. She is the BOSS of the Pistol Permit office:

I am always polite, until one of them starts in with the "don't waste my time" or "I don't feel like it" attitude that they have. If they want to bury my file, that's all well and good... I am sure I can get it found. All the more leverage and complaints I can file when the time comes and have one of them tossed out on their ass.

I cannot believe a class action lawsuit has not been filed against erie county for this yet. If even 100 people would donate 500 bucks each, we could see some heads roll on this. I would gladly contribute a healthy sum to see some people out of a job over this nonsense.

Hi all. New to the site, and I came on for just this particular reason. I put my application in Erie county back in april. All my four references have been contacted, two of which have actually been interviewed, along with myself. I'm not liking all this talk about waiting ANOTHER two months after I even get accepted... I guess it's just god's way of telling me he wants me to save up for a more expensive pistol... Kimber here I come. Please keep me updated. If I can't have mine, at least I can hear about other people getting theirs. Good luck.

I would use caution,If your approved already go in person with that letter. The judge approved you for a restricted permit.Just ask the clerk she may have it waiting on her desk. You never know,it could be a simple thing by just showing the letter and it being resolved.

I tried calling and being very polite, almost timid when dealing with these government slugs. I was almost cowering on the phone I was so polite and they were barking at me like I was criminal.

I appreciate your suggestion but enough is enough. I really don't care about the permit anymore. I'll go get my money back at the gun shop and stick with my plan to move out of this HORRIBLE state. I just wanted to try some pistol deer hunting so it's no big deal. I had planned on relocating until the economy took a dump but this just motivates me to MOVE AWAY from NY. Thanks for the suggestion but the certified letter is ready to go first thing Monday morning. I've documented my horrible experience with this office and I will be requesting that the county clerk investigate the Erie County Pistol Permit office for loafing, rudeness, unprofessional behavior, poor work ethic, etc. I'll keep you posted.
