Emotionally unstable question

I applied for a conceal carry permit about 10 years ago. I was declined (emotionally unstable). Brief explanation of what happened is, I was 20, single, and living with a parent. Then I went to being a father of 3 living with a girlfriend literally overnight. She had twins that are mine and had a daughter that was about 1 1/2 years old. After about a year of the responsibility I had a bad day and admitted myself to a mental health care facility. After 1 night of being around nothing but drug addicts I released myself. I could not relate with anyone there. So they released me because I was not court ordeded, but they released me with a title as untreated. I am guessing this is what flagged my application for carry. So my question is does anyone know if I can get cleared to get my carry permit? Im in Indiana if it helps.

Did you declare this on your application?
.
If you did, DO NOT do it again.
.
You were not charged with a crime, you were not Baker Acted, you were not court ordered.................so clam up about it!
.
Hint to everyone...........Never ask a question that you do not already know that anwer to.
.
When dealing with gooberment shlubs..........go prepared and keep your mouth shut.

There is a time limit depending on the state......I have only applied to FL and TN.
.
Try again.
.
Possible for you to do a FL permit but might take a while.
.
There was no means of reporting such and incident 10 years ago......so I doubt it will show up now anyway.

They went back to charges I had against me (both misdemeanors) from 1972 (applied in 2011) 39 years ago and denied my permit because they couldn't find out what the resolution to the cases were. I finally, basically, forced them to give me the permit if they couldn't prove the charges/convictions resulted in felonious convictions. And this was after I had obtained court records showing that both were misdemeanor charges.n In one case, there were no court records, everything having been destroyed in 1996. Since they couldn't PROVE a felony conviction, THEY GAVE ME MY PERMIT.

Seem to me, you did the right thing.
I'm in here about once a month. But everytime I come in, I find the same guy fighting,
with someone over some ridicules points. His words/actions wants everyone to know he carries a gun.
If they gave him a permit - I'm sure you can get also.

If you were not ordered by a judge, you should be fine. Might want to contact an attorney though.

Remember, what works for others may not work for you! And no, I'm not trolling the CC thread. I OC or CC depending on my mood and where I'm going.

OP: Did you check the mental health box?! Though admitting yourself after a year of parenthood does raise a flag with some, if you haven't been before a judge, DON'T CHECK IT! They probably put you on an automatic deny list now...

Just a simple question, are you stable enough for a weapons permit? If theres any question or uncertainty do yourself a favor and don't do it. What if you slip back into whatever you were going through? Those types of issues have the ability to override logic and common sense. I by no means am saying you don't deserve it just be sure. To many people with mental health issues are slipping through and that's why we are in the situation we are in!

Just speaking the truth, and asking the questions.

So, let me get the straight. You had the courage to seek help when you were overwhelmed by life and now you're labeled for life? How do we convince people it's ok to seek help if we turn around and do crap like this. Sorry, not exactly offering any advise, just a social commentary/rant.

Do you understand what is happening?
Obama's EO today........to have Docs intervene.........'mental health' is a tool the marxist use to remove your rights.
.
Those who have used pyschotropics or have sought mental health will be denied in the future.......the future is now.
.
Time to get tough out here.......you are about to be eaten alive.
.
.
This has been going on for some time now......note that many of the returning vets with mental health issues are already being denied their rights.

You guys out there need to get your **** together.

Life just got tougher.

I've known a lot of civilians who couldn't manage their finances all my life. They couldn't balance a checkbook or make their paycheck last until the next paycheck. They also have CCW permits. But I think it goes deeper than that with Veterans. Unless their a menace to society and/or a threat to themselves or others, I didn't think they should have their 2A rights taken away.

Ohhh i can manage my finances. My wife just helps keep em from having a minus sign in front of them. Does that make me a danger to society? Nope, makes me a married man, regardless of any status the VA can imagine.

Yeah I had a rough time back in college when my dad was diagnosed with cancer. I could see a shrink today and be declared 100% stable but that blemish on my chart worries me. Plus my doc was doing this shotgun diagnosis crap. Oh lets try this and I'll prescribe this...oh, that didn't help, lets try this.... and on and on. Lets just say that I can't get a TX CHL because of that unless I'm cleared by a shrink...and I've had like 2 shrinks and a therapist all say that there's not a damn thing wrong with me and I got a bogus diagnosis. All I needed was talk therapy, not drugs. Ugh.

Who declared you "emotionally unstable". Was that a finding of fact by a healthcare professional. If so you may need to go get a healthcare professional to find you as "safe". A word to our military vets returning from deployment...make absolutely sure you need help before going to VA for ptsd. Have friends or family assist you in making the decision.

No formal declaration. My GP just pulled this shotgun diagnosis crap, tossing all kinds of crap onto my chart just to be able to write scripts to treat them like "oh let's try bipolar...whoops that didn't work, looks like you're not bipolar (but its on my damn chart)." I saw a shrink...not bipolar, depressed, was given meds, stopped taking them at his behest almost a decade ago. Earned two bachelor's and two master's degrees, 3 professional certs. I'd just have to find a shrink who's not in the CYA game. "Oh, there's absolutely nothing wrong with you. A letter attesting to that? No, too much liability."
