Email recieved, whats your take on it

Below is an email that I had received and just wondering what everyones take is on it. There is also the 911 tape in a link as well.

Jay Lewis was a former police officer... avid hunter... gun
collector... and a concealed carry permit owner.

One night around midnight, Lewis was headed home when he passed a
slow car carrying 5 people coming back from a Halloween party.

But after Lewis passed, the car sped up to race him down the
street.

Lewis went to turn to the left and the other car collided with
his.

2 of the passengers then got out and started punching on Lewis's
windows, until he pulled out his .380 pistol he had with him.

They backed off toward their car and Lewis got out to call 911
and examine the damage to his car.

That was when the 2 men came back!

Trying to sneak attack Lewis in two different directions, you
could hear Lewis's warnings on the 911 call...

"Get back! Get Back! I'm going to start shooting! Get away
from me! Get away from me!" * BANG *

You can hear the actual 911 call by clicking here >> Link Removed

The two men had faked like they were turning away but then
charged Lewis, forcing him to shoot and injure one of the men.

When the police showed up, the man was taken to the hospital...

... and Lewis was arrested because police suspected that he
failed to back off and avoid the shooting.

He was charged with two counts of "intimidation with a dangerous
weapon" and going "armed with intent".

Here's the good news...

Lewis was acquitted by a jury of his peers on all charges.

Here's the bad news...

Lewis only made $32,359 a year and didn't have the $225,000 cash
for bail money that was set for him!

Therefore, he was forced to stay in jail until his court
date... 112 days later!

But it gets worse...

While Lewis was in jail, he was evicted from his apartment
because management saw him as "dangerous" because of his
self-defense shooting.

They even threw all of his belongings out on the curb - which
were all stolen by passers-by.

Lewis emerged from jail 112 days later to be homeless and
broke... all for just defending himself from two road rage thugs!

Sounds like he should have had a better lawyer. But at least hes alive without a criminal record.

I he was a former police officer he would have know about the bail bonds service who could have posted the 22,500 needed for bond. As only 10% is needed to pony up to get out of jail. That is just one of the things I question about this story.

Interesting point about the bond, I hadn't even thought about it. Like I said I got the email and the link for the 911 call, I don't know the person in the email and just thought to share

I can honestly say that is probably one of my biggest fears if I ever have to use deadly force in defense.
Find you comment perplexing to say the least, even though I understand what you are really trying to say. "One of your biggest fears?" Really? I have one and only one fear. When someone puts me in imminent danger, did I kill him--that is my only fear---that the SOB is not dead. That is part of the problem with this thread 1) Not so sure all the facts are correct in the first place--"if something just does not sound right, it probably is not true or at least is missing facts" 2) If it is true, a big part of his problem was he did not kill the SOBs--then it is only his story

The story is true and factual. I has been printed in many newspapers and is on many websites. Above is just one link to it and gives more detail.

I don't think you read the story. His only problem was that the system got ahold of him.

If he had killed the attacker it seems to me that his problems would have been worse, not better. And for it to be "only his story" he'd have had to kill both the men and the two other people still in the other car. Do you think at all before you post? smfh

I've seen what can happen in a shooting incident when things go wrong. Buddy of mine went through, between not getting trial info and having a warrent put out for him while he was out of town going to his grandfather's funeral. Spending nearly two weeks in prison with no contact to anyone, he thankfully after over a year was put on probation. BTW he was charged with first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, and I forgot the other charge. All his charges had to be dismissed due to a hung jury at the very limit of the length of his trail length. The only charge that he was found guilty of was reckless endangerment and had time served with one year probation. The person my friend had to use his gun on also decided to sue him. That's why that is my biggest fear, if the person is somehow able to survive me needing to use my gun in self defense he wont be in any shape to attack and at which point there will be no threat against me.

I remember this story very well as it happened right here at home. Not only was Jay Lewis the victim of a crime, but was also the victim of a radical anti-gun D.A.
A Democrat, go figure.
