~Economists Warn; "Buy a gun & keep your powder dry".~

I know how to hunt, fish, grow, and raise my own food and I live where I can do all four. The only thing I 'm really concerned about is people who can't do any of these things. They are what I am preparing for.

I here ya brother. People forget about what's in front if them if they have to work for it. The lord gave us the product and the instructions; all we have to do is use them.

I've been "prepping" for about a year, for what, IDK... anything I suppose. My wife and I decided it made sense to become more self sufficiant anyway. Y'know, learn how to preserve food, garden, we already knew how to hunt & fish, and we 'd like to own livestock too. We'd like to be able to live at least halfway comfortable in a grid-down scenario.

As it's been said, we're also prepparing for the possibility of defending our "preps" from people who didn't prepare. I'm teaching my wife, and friends how to safely operate various firearms along with some simple "tactical" drills I've learned.

I'm spit-balling here but, I think the chances of a complete collapse(effecting everyone badly) might be around 5-10% over the next 5-10 years. I think the chances of another "depression" might be around 50%, where you'll have some people having a really rough time... and others not so much. Depending on where you live, I think being the biggest factor there.

It does provide a little piece of mind knowing we have provisions to survive comfortably for a realtively short period of time, couple of months... maybe six, if the "grid" ever went down. As well as if hyperinflation makes it very difficult to purchase your everday items, we'll have a good stock on hand.

But nothing crazy though, I'm not going to become a Nat-Geo Prepper, lol. We're still going to enjoy life to the fullest with all the modern luxuries we have. To deny them seems a bit foolish to us, and a bit of a premature punshment in a way, lol.

Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

The wife and I talk about this from time to time. It's kind of a naturel thing for me since my parents grew up in the depression. They always did alot of canning and always had xtra food on hand. I can hunt, fish get get along pretty well in the wild if I really had to.The wife does a fair amount of canning every fall. And we grow a nice garden. The wife I mostly keep about 1-2 months worth of food on hand and I have a fair amount of ammo/firearms, gas for the genny and other things needed just in case. I worry about losing power more than anything. And with no power, the 2 legged animals would be on the prowl real quick.I think our power grid is very open to attacks.

Hopefully you'll become the teacher of skills but if not then shoot to kill

I tend to think most of us will help one another in desperate times but there will be a few selfish alpha leader a-holes determined to remove food and other supplies from small groups of the meek and to those I say shoot first and ask questions later, it will all get sorted out in the wash.

I'm really not much of a survivalist. I'll be gone fairly early

That's why you need to get with other people that are like minded and ban together. I am not much of a "survivalist" either but I can hunt and fish to an extent and will find a way to keep warm and dry. Get together with people of different skills to make the group well rounded. The one thing that makes us humans so resilient is the uncanny ability to adapt.
