Ok i has at the range today and encountered somthing new to me. First off i collect my own brass as i reload. well i normally wait till ater my shooting session is up. Today every time id empty mag mags and proceed to reload them some older guy and im guessing his grandson would grab my brass. well im a nice guys and didnt wanna make a scene. so i shot more mags and proceeded to pick my brass up right after my next 6-8 magazines. I know they saw i was picking my brass up as they were shooting next to me. So i left my wife shoot while i walked the range for a minute and when i came back they were grabbing my brass again. Again started pickin up after every magazine. I felt as if i were racing to get my property. I guess what Im asking is.. Is this normal to feel this way? Not mad just a little irritated over peoples lack of common sence. I never said anything to them other than when they complemented my shootng. What would you do in this instance???

Tell them to go efffff themselves. Why is this even a question?

I've seen this..
I would have said thanks for picking up my brass can you put it in my bag or are you wanting to buy it?

People get more rude and disrespectful as the days go by. The sad part is you have to call them out on it because ppl never get the hint the first time. I'm the same way I treat others how I want to be treated. The golden rule is no longer golden and is not taught by anyone it seems. Sometime you just have to be a ass if they don't get it the second time.

Agree with the others, even if they were just new shooters and ignorant, it was rude none the less. The range I go to states you are only allowed to pick up your own brass if you want to reload, any brass left behind by someone else, is the ranges property. Maybe see if your range has those rules? Give you some foundation to confront them. If the rules are not there, then politely and sternly tell them they are being rude by taking the brass you brought, and planned on reloading. Be honest and a good person, don't let these people continue to be rude, or they will never understand.

I'd tell them "I reload and I'd appreciate it if you left my brass alone."

Is that so hard to do?

I would be nice at first and ask them for my brass back I'd also ask them to stay in their own shooting area... Not just for the courtesy of it but for the safety of it... You never know when you're going to reposition and trip over the little brat who doesn't have any manners... Then judging by his response to that would determine if things needed to escalate into a more stern talking to, or an intervention by a range official...

I just started reloading and taking my brass home, prior to that I've had people ask me first if they could have it, never just snatching it up. Another guy offered to clean up for me if he could take my brass. I think if someone was taking my stuff I would just say oh, that's mine, I reload, nip it in the but right from the get.

Yep, you really have to assert your assert yourself these days because if you don't there is always someone who will try to take advantage of you. There is nothing at all wrong with telling them that you save your own brass and they can't have it. If you need to, put on a firm face, look them in the eye and say, "What do you think you're doing? You can't just come over here and steal my brass!"
I always think, "What would my drill Sargent say?" Then I tone it down just a little bit!

The range I go to has an appointed clean-up guy that gets there at first light and cleans up...he will sell brass for a nickel a piece. There is your dollar value...its your money...just say no. Now no one has ever tried to pick my brass from under my feet but I would definately back them off. I am not afraid to pick someone elses leavings either, but, I wait or make sure they are not policing it up.

Simple tell them that you reload All your brass and if they are in the way just push them over to you. Thank you!. I always let the Range Personnel know before entering the range that I reload my brass and need the pick them up. They always tell me ….not a problem. That way when they see me on camera picking up shells that I am not selling their precious metal!

Being a "brass rat" myself, I always ask if I am there shooting. At our range, when we have a shooting match, I usually pick up brass right after I paste targets. There are a lot of guys who reload, so it is almost a contest in of itself! LOL. Even then, if someone is shooting 45s we usually give those to the shooter because they are kind of like finding mushrooms.
Just sayin...
If they don't ask, tell them to please go somewhere else. I would say as much as to get off the range while I am shooting and put my brass on the bench before you leave.

The thing that amazes me is that this thread even had to be posted. I mean just the fact that you were policing your brass should have been the end of the issue.

I think this whole frigging planet has lost its mind

I go to the state range on the wildlife refuge. Today was the first time that I saw anyone going around and picking the brass up. He came up and asked me if I reload before he started taking any of the brass in my area. Then he asked me what caliber I was shooting. He said ok and gave me back every 40, 9mm, and 380 that he came across in that area. He gave me back more than I shot. I ended up getting in a conversation with him while I was taking a break, and found out that he is selling the brass for $5.00 for 100 rounds, and he also makes bullets and sells them. He has basically made him a business out of it. While he was at it, he was burning the paper targets in the trash barrels, sweeping up even the casings that couldn't be reloaded, and cleaning up other trash. I ended up buying some brass from him before I left. I figured he deserved something for his work, and I got some brass out of it.
