I have a full carry in Dutchess County and will be moving to Greene County in about 4 months! I have been getting conflicting data from the internet regarding what to expect when I go to notify the clerks office in Catskill, NY.
Can anyone tell me what to expect? :girl_wink:

You will be required to file a change of address and get a new permit. The licensing officer may want you to justify why you need an unrestricted carry. If you carry for business purposes, hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, target, etc., have had a permit for many years and a clean background you'll probably be OK. We must remember that NY is a discretionary issue state and the judge may change the permit to restricted without explanation. Hopefully your judge is a conservative republican as they seem to be the most friendly.

Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties in lower NYS have been very good regarding unrestricted permits but some judges in the far north and western parts of NY are tough. You may try becoming an NRA certified pistol instructor. It changes the nature of the carry in that you can't pidgeon-hole exactly when and where you'll carry. Try www.GunForHire.com to get certified. A couple hundred bucks and a weekend of your time will sure help as the judge will see you as safer than the average Joe. We also have some sample letters used successfully by our students. PM me and I'll provide you copies of a few examples.
