Dust rabbits in daily carry

So yesterday I went to clean my daily carry and found all sorts of dust bunnies that had accumulated, more like dust rabbits. The most concerning one was in front of the firing pin. This worries me as if I had to use it I would hate to have a pillow in between the pin and primer. I'm wondering what peoples thoughts here are. If their is this much lint external what about internal (beyond your standard takedown)? What is your typical cleaning interval? Do most inspect their weapon every morning? To some degree I suppose that's a given but what are peoples checklists?

'Dust bunny's' in your firearm...
Seriously??

Not good. It sounds to me like it very well could be a combination of any of the following problems.

a) Too much oil in/on the weapon.
(Too much oil on a firearm tends to collect more dust, dirt & grime than normal).

b) No holster being used, or an improper/dirty holster being used.

c) Not properly cleaning the weapon or not cleaning it frequently enough.

d) Improperly storing the weapon (Dirty or dusty location).

Take that weapon apart.
Give it a thorough cleaning.
'LIGHTLY' oil it.

Take better care of your firearm and it will take care of you if ever needed.

Hummm... (looking at the Colt Officer's ACP sitting on the table to my right) Looks like some lint in that thing... I've been carrying this one often.

Lint, dust, dry skin, (for those of us north of the Mason/Dixon line it gets cold and skin dries out), and gun oil mix to make a paste.. Yuck...

I carry my pocket pistol in my front pocket, this leads to lint. I blow it off often and clean it after range time. I've never had a miss fire but I must admit the lint concerns me as well. My answer, don't let it build it, clean it often.

My glock surprisingly has never had this problem. If I did, I'd just dunk it in the dish water and shake it out and reholster it. Good to go.

At a minimum, a weapon you carry but don't fire should be cleaned once a week. What I don't understand is why have a weapon and not experience the fun of firing it as much as possible?

Hope that dusty corner in your firearm isn't a indication of how often you practice with it. If I can't get to the range...the slide comes off every two days for inspection.
Always ready to go.

I field strip my EDC carry gun and wipe it out once a week. My life style can result in the gun getting crunked up with something or other. My router filled my front pocket with chips once, had to dig the LCP out of there and blow it off, then invert the pocket to use the shop vac on it. Saw dust, dirt, grain for the horses, I seem to have a way of getting stuff in my pockets, and also all over my IWB carried G26.

I've had dust, hay, mower clippings, chain saw chips, and all sorts of stuff sprinkled on my Glock even under an untucked shirt. I always use a holster with an open muzzle so the stuff doesn't collect in the bottom of it.

I'm going to the range today with the LCP and the G26. I'll clean them both when I get back. I know people say Glocks don't need cleaning, but I don't think accumulated residue from being fired makes them shoot better, so I'll clean it. My LCP definitely likes being clean.

My S&W Bodyguard .380 gets lint in the back by the internal hammer because I pocket carry. I rack the slide back to remove the round and cycle it several more times and test the laser before I charge it and carry it. If I can’t blow the lint out I dig it out with a Q tip. It would suck for it to not cycle when I need it to.

Thank you for the insight, I have always been very careful not to over oil and I definitely use a proper holster. I use the "black mamba" which is essentially a different brand of the crossbreed supertuck. For storage, its either on my person holstered or right next to me when I sleep. I don't shoot as often as I like but stay practiced enough to shoot accurately(my draw and aim could always be quicker though). From majority I would presume the issue is frequency of cleaning and not doing a bi-daily check. This I think will be my primary resolve. My main concern though, is I know there are many more internal parts you wouldn't touch in a normal takedown. Perhaps they could be accumulating junk. The weapon in question is a springfield xd full size 9mm.

I've also worried about the 'lint-pillow' getting between the pin and primer.

My only answer is to clear, inspect, dry-fire, and reload my weapon every morning before I put it on my hip. If there's a bit of lint, I simply blow it off. I do it with whatever pistol I'm carrying that day...even my Glock. Sure, it's a little bit of a hassle. But so is shaving and brushing my teeth. But I still do those things every day.

I clean my carry pieces once a week. When I retire, I'll only shave once a week. I'll probably continue to brush my teeth every morning.
