Drew My Gun Earlier This Evening

I suppose you would be right, if his body language and posture was non-threatening. It's difficult to convey that in a textual format, of course, but this wasn't some kid who would've taken off at the first sign he'd been made. When I called him on his activity, he became defiant and emboldened. He was also a great deal bigger than me. Me and my COPD-having ass wasn't going to get into a tussle with some guy who was mad that I interrupted him while he was casing my car.

Did you catch this part?

I was being pretty non-confrontational at that point.

Yes and I prefer mine. It follows a logical line of thinking. So he says he's ok and you've established nothing.

Wow. Sounds like you have really bad luck.

And what part of the story are you forgetting to tell us?? Why would the guy who "attacked" you bring harassment charges against you?? You didn't provoke him, did you??

You felt the need to draw your pistol during a "weak robbery attempt"?? What is that anyway.....did the kid ask you for a dollar?? I'm seeing a pattern here.

Hard for them to investigate crimes when the so-called "victim" won't let them know about it. Seems to me the 2 common denominators here are you and questionable incidents involving guns.

1. No, I didn't provoke him. Even if I did, like if I called him a name, for example, it doesn't justify anyone trying to open up my van door and then attempting to smash the windows out. The pat of the story I'm leaving out is how lazy the cops here are, and would rather discourage someone from pressing charges than have to do any actual paperwork. It's not the first time I've heard this; a friend of mine, going to the hospital with a broken jaw, was discouraged from pressing charges against her (then) husband by the police, because he might file harassment charges in retaliation, and then what would happen to their kids? The police here are garbage.

2. The weak robbery attempt was a skinny crackhead kid jumping out from behind a bush with his hand hidden under his shirt, in the dark. I didn't have to draw on him, because when I turned to face him, he saw I was carrying, and he took off running. I never even said a word to him.

3. I stand by my opinion of law enforcement. My apologies to any cops here, as I've tried for years to like you guys, but you make it impossible.

Are we done now picking apart my credibility, or do all noobs have to deal with this sort of nonsense? Should I get a member in good standing here to vouch for me?

"When your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail."

Situational response - FAIL

1. Concealed carry "classes", in my opinion, are mostly a waste of time and money, and are just insisted upon by the state as another means to make money from something that should be a right. My apologies to any instructors here, but your job is a waste. Also, by your own admission, you've only been carrying a gun for less than a year, and I have no idea of how many of these situations you've been in, or have been victimized, but it probably hasn't been many.

2. Property is property. Is a car worth a life? That's up to a thief to decide. Is a TV worth a life? That's up to a home invader to decide. When someone acts in an unlawful manner, and gets shot, it was their decision to get shot.

3. Most importantly, it wasn't my car, but my mother-in-law's. She trusted me with her car. I'd rather not have to return it to her with a broken driver's side window. I'd never hear the end of it.

It will only be a matter of time before you get yourself into trouble with the law. I would strongly suggest you retain the best criminal defense attorney you can afford, and be sure that you have plenty of bail money handy.

Guys like you mess things up for the rest of us.

I concur ...... 110%

It's posts like this one (and several other active at the moment) that simply make me believe people just look for reasons to post and boast. What the hell? Are some people so shallow that they cannot wait to get home and tell all the interwebz police about pulling a piece or open carrying just for the hell of it? (the other active thread) WTF? People. Use common sense. Act like an adult. If you cannot wait to get home to the keyboard so you can boast about pulling out the judge on a guy standing next to your car, you probably shouldn't even own the damn thing. I've had to pull my tool once, but I don't go bragging about it. That's the last thing you should do. Some people need to get a life before they end up doing it.

No weapon and no threat. Are you elderly or disabled?? You're lucky he didn't call the cops on you.

Guns aren't meant to be used as a response to someone who looks at you the wrong way or takes a disagreeable tone of voice.

Tell that to my buddy who almost died from a set of car keys to the neck. Missed his jugular by less than a quarter of an inch. Besides what was the crook going to do call 911 and say what? Thats right the first gun out wins the second gets burried! Some one robbing your car is not going to call the cops. But he might shoot you!!

Now you have removed the element of surprise, better keep your head on a swivel.

Oh, there goes that Element of Surprise thing I keep hearing about. In any case, my neck has Swiss bearings installed; I grew up in NYC, which means I grew up with my head on a swivel. My girlfriend noticed that when we started dating; once I explained it to her, and explained why I carry, she went and had my baby.

Impressed much with yourself? You are really trouble looking for a place to happen. You can't tell me you had no avenue of retreat in a parking lot, or that your life was threatened. You had no business pulling out your weapon.

I see the trolls haven't left while I was on vacation.

I rarely agree w/Jahwarrior but he is not a troll he is a long time memeber in good standing on both GRM and THR.

I would take anything he chose to post here at 100% face value.

That said,

Did you call the cops?

ETA
OK I read the rest of the thread and I know JW didn't call the cops. He did however, respond exactly the way the ' Street robberies and you" thread that's making the rounds (and garnering so much applause) says he should have and you guys are crucifying him for it.

Tell me what should he have done?

My response would have been to tell the guy flat out it was my car and you need to leave now and I likely would have had my hand on my gun when I said it.

My next action would be dictated by his response.

gun?

While I agree with your telling the individual its your vehicle and they need to leave, I'm still left wondering why your gun is in your hand. The guy showed no plausible threat. Squaring up okay, and a whatre you gonna do comment. While i would hate to see another potential criminal (at this point the subject in ? Is) waste more tax dollars, I find it highly unlikely any court will believe shooting someone because they were standing by a vehicle (piece of property) was a valid reason for someone to loose there life. There are also court cases to prove it and similar scenarios. While jah may be credible this post was a waste of forum space, as well i believe to draw attention to himself. There are times when one must admit he's wrong, and accept defeat.

Lets get this over with. No, I do not think he is trolling.
No, he probably did not have the need to PULL the gun.(from what I am getting)but maybe put his hand on it.
Call the cops? Why? nothing happened.
Looking for trouble? Not so much.

Now.
Taking a class a waste of time? Are you stupid? Taking a proper pistol class, and taking an updated one with a PROPER instructor is the BEST way to get the new laws, and updated information, ESPECIALLY! if you don't have good relations with the cops in your area.

Yup. As I said in an earlier thread, some people troll these boards looking to somehow justify their questionable actions in the form of an "attaboy!" internet pat on the back.
