Dr. Phil Comforts Oklahoma Teen Mom Shooter of Burglar...

I just happened to surf onto Dr. Phil's show yesterday and recognized Sarah McKinley's face from other news stories I've seen her on, so I watched the whole interview. Haven't been able to find the whole interview on video, but did find one of the more salient parts of it where the good doctor gives young Mrs. McKinley some comforting advice:

Kind of surprised me that the doc was that pro-gun. He was even more adamant about it during other parts of the interview.

The young lady is having a really rough go of it, which shows on her face in this clip, but she doesn't talk much (if at all) in this. Not sure how we might go about sending her our heartfelt support, but if anyone has any ideas, I'd like to figure out a way.

One of her biggest issues at the moment is her fear of living alone at her home. The assailants partner is out of jail and lives near her. There is a protective order against him but it is only for 2000 feet and we all now what protective orders are good for...basically toilet paper. Like you, I wish for a good way to support her and let her know she has many many supporters and friends in her time of need. I just pray that scum sucking pig of a human being that lives near her minds his p's and q's, and if not, I hope she once again prevails!

Yeah, I was hoping I'd find the full interview to highlight those facts, but no luck so far. Sarah rents the place she's living in from the biggest land-owner in the county, and both assailants work(ed) for her landlord. She surmised during the interview that the miscreants found out about her being alone after her husband passed by their boss, her landlord, maybe mentioning it in casual conversation. The two scumbags shared a place on the same property as Sarah and her family live on, and their house is about 2000 yards away, thus the 2000 yard restriction on the restraining order. It's troubling to say the least that a judge wouldn't require the surviving scum-bucket to find other accomodations at least on the other side of the county.

Sarah and her husband raised German Shepherds, and she knew that she was being stalked when one day before her husband passed, she was at the hospital, and came home to find one of the dogs dead. A couple of days later she came home to find one (or more, not sure) of her puppies dead.

It's certainly no wonder she's having such a tough time coping. Just the situation with the death of her husband would be understandable to put her in a depression, but it also came out in the interview that she's a Christian, and is having a hard time with the "Thou shalt not kill" thing, and part of her condition right now is her fear that she's literally destined for Hell. Dr. Phil did what I thought was a very good job of addressing those fears too. Not sure how effective it was for the moment, but what he said was profound and I hope she will benefit from it after having some time to let it sink in.

Anyway, I get that no one who just killed somebody else should be expected to celebrate the killing, but I sure do wish there was something that could be said or shown to her that would relieve her apparent overwhelming guilt.

My heart goes out to those experiencing such grief.

BluesStringer, I like your signature quote regarding gun control. Tho I've read it elsewhere before it still makes me angry for the truth it reveals...

I haven't watched Dr Phil for years because I find him to be an Obama & Oprah loving blowhard libtard who panders strongly to the left.

But, I was very surprise (pleasantly so) with his handling of this young woman.

A big KUDOs to Dr Phil on this issue!

Dr. Phil is Captain Obvious. This incident happened about 15 miles from my house. This woman will be found innocent of any charges, the accomplice will be found guilty of murder. I'm pretty sure that she doesn't need captain"phil" Obvious' condescending pat on the head to know that she did the right thing.

The young lady isn't facing any charges. No charges were brought against her at all. I haven't seen anything that says she was even detained.

the accomplice will be found guilty of murder.

Hopefully you're right. He has been charged with 1st Degree murder.

I'm pretty sure that she doesn't need captain"phil" Obvious' condescending pat on the head to know that she did the right thing.

I wish you could've seen the whole interview. She is extremely conflicted with what happened, and literally said during the interview that she's scared that now that she has killed someone, she will go to Hell.

Further, I found nothing condescending at all in what Dr. Phil said to her in the clip I provided. While what he said may well be obvious to all of us who have spent significant parts of our lives thinking about the implications of taking another human being's life, what he said in that clip was in context to the parts of the interview that aren't in the clip where it was beyond obvious how unprepared Mrs. McKinley was/is to deal with the aftermath of killing someone.

If you want to see a ridiculously inappropriate reaction to Mrs. McKinley, check out another TV counselor, Dr. Drew, in the clip below, where he introduces Sarah and her baby by saying, "And, Sarah McKinley, who went through this terrible experience just last week...Sarah, you were just 18....and there's the uh...the uh...accomplice." "Accomplice," of course, referring to the infant baby she was holding. Lisa Bloom, daughter of Gloria Allred and a lawyer (and mother) herself, was one of Drew's other guests, and she could just barely bring herself to say that Sarah was justified in shooting the scumbag, but when she did, Drew said, "Yeah, but lethal force??"

I'm not a fan of any TV purveyors of psycho-babble, but I did take a strong interest in Sarah's story, and violated my commitment to my own self not to pollute my mind with that kind of garbage when I happened to recognize her face while channel surfing. I have seen some coverage that was fair, some that was a wash, and quite a bit that was questioning and downright adversarial to her actions. Dr. Phil treated her fairly, with full respect (and knowledge) of her right to pull that trigger when she did, a clear understanding and sensitivity to her feelings and second-guessing of herslef that she exhibited during the interview, and a commitment to provide after-care support for her in the weeks and months to come.

Dr. Drew, on the other hand, should lose his freakin' job over his bleeding heart leftist commentary, but the fact is, he's on CNN and only pushing their party-line.

I totally get not being a fan of Dr. Phil, but I think criticism of him in this instance is way misplaced. He gave her excellent advice and offered her expensive care and help in finding competent professionals to provide it, things which she is probably less prepared to deal with than all the media attention and just the shock of having had to kill someone in the first place.

The accomplice comment was pretty lame. I guess even he may have been outside of his comfort zone. Drew seemed to be trying and looking too hard for a reason for lethal force not to be used, and was not given any real allowance for such by any of the women. The lawyer threw in the comment about accidental shootings and exceptions, but I think Drew would have made a fool out of himself if he pushed the anti-gun stuff any harder.

I must agree that Dr. Drew appears to be a huge spineless libtard in comparison to Dr. Phil, but, in my area,we get very tired of TV liberals ragging on non liberals conducting themselves in a way that is inconsistent with their spineless liberal ways.
If bad guys get injured or killed during their commission of heinous acts, well, they knew the job was dangerous when they took it.

Well, my point in replying to your first post was that Dr. Phil did nothing of the sort, not in the clip I provided, and not in any other segment of the interview. He was as supportive of her actions as you or I would've been, with the added advantage of having the resources and generosity to make sure she gets through the aftermath with as much normalcy as possible for her and her baby for the rest of their lives.

Was there something in the clip fudo, that made you think Doc Phil was taking a typical leftist tack about the events and/or Sarah McKinley? I consider myself hyper-sensitive to leftist dogma, stealthy or otherwise, and I saw/heard nothing from him that said anything other than "You go girl!" Am I missing something?

Dr. Drew makes me sick! Poor girl had to defend herself a second time. Asking her why she didn't run. What a douche!

Dr. Douche makes me sick too. Right from the start when he referred to the baby as her "accomplice." I mean yeah, he probably intended it as a joke, but the implication that Sarah's actions were criminal in his mind is inescapable with the use of that word.

I'm still trying to find the whole interview from the Doc Phil show. So far no luck, but it gives a much bigger-picture view of the whole deal, including the aftermath, than any other interview I've seen to date.

This young lady is a real Mom that will go to any length to protect herself and her child. mShe did nothing wrong she was 110% in the right to protect herself and the baby and other then Dr. Phil all the other's can dri up and blow away.

If the young lady is a Christian, someone should point out to her that all Biblical history, all really good translations from ancient languages, as well as common logic, tell us the Commandment does not say "Thou shalt not Kill." It says "Thou shalt not Murder." That young lady is a good Christian, and she did the good Christian thing, preventing the murder of herself and her child.

Hey fudo, if you're close by, maybe you can get word to the young lady, maybe get a mailing address or something. She needs to know she has millions of friends and supporters now. If we weren't way out in the boondocks of the Pacific NorthWET, my own wife would happily talk with her. My Beloved is a Believer. And while she has a nasty knife scar, this world has one less child rapist because of her. Killing a goblin is not a bad thing, it's the Right Thing.

BluesStringer You are correct, I got caught in a moment of hypersensitivity from watching numerous reports that slopped over the edge of the bucket. The suggestive nature of which, is that those of us who live in "flyover country" are less civilized than the east and west coast liberals. My bad.

My understanding is that this young mother has a full plate right now, and is not really wanting to interact with people outside the family at this time.

Nope, no "bad" at all. I figured it was something like that, that's why I asked. Thanks for the clarification.
