Does the Media have too much power?

I remember the days when TV would go off after the late late late show, play the national anthem and then Snow. Back on at 6am.

Now, the media has so much influence over popular culture & people lives that they influence policy.
Example 1 - Kim Kardashian made a sex tape, hung out with Paris Hilton and because of the Media created a multi-million dollar empire with virtually no talent. Oh by the way, she is probably worth over $30million.
Example 2 - When American Idol holds there auditions they can have at least 10,000 people waiting sometime days, so they can become "famous".
Example 3 - Snooki's pregnancy was on the cover of US magazine and baby pictures from celebrities can command hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Example 4 - Creating a social media website just to say "Hi" can make you a billionaire.

I can go on & on. But I believe there will be a time where the media will be more powerful than the people.

A Hollywood actor can easily make $5 million a film.
Basketball players sign $20million contracts.
A school teacher makes about $35k a year.
Police officer $45k a year
EMT - $30k a year

21 years ago CNN was the first to successfully broadcast the first gulf war live. 12 years ago we had Big Brother & Survivor. I wonder what's going to happen in the next 20 years?

That's like blaming pornography on sex.

If the media controls your thoughts then you aren't capable of thinking.

If you buy products because of the eye candy in the ads then you'll always be manipulated by someone, whether it is the media or the anti-media. you won't think, you'll just follow.

Manipulators are like a nuclear power plant - the manipulated are the fuel rods.

Yes, the media has crappy outlooks on everything. Someone defends their life and family from a armed robber and they somehow mix it up to "Man robbing house shot brutally to death by trigger happy handgun owner."

I hate media... that should have been my name instead of fatcrotch. i don't think that would go over too well on here though.

The media only has the power we allow it to have. Don't support the market the market goes away. Movie stars make big money because they make big money for the movie studios. Sports stars make big money because people spend money to watch them play. Kind of funny how people complain about paying a teacher $35 to $45 thousand to educate our our children but don't have a problem paying people $5 to $6 million to entertain us.

Not us per se, but someone is feeding the giant. The news guys get paid by advertisers, so they will report what ever will sell ratings. I remember a day when parents used to tell their kids, Study hard and become a doctor or a lawyer. Ha, maybe they're better off standing in line at the next American Idol tryouts or post something viral on youtube.

If you read the posts on this site, you hear about the corrupt liberal media and how they will twist the truth. If you think it's bad now, just wait. They can turn a virtual nobody with no skills and no talents into media powerhouse. I see this growing.

That's how BO got elected.

Start reading Bill O'reilly's Culture Warrior. What an eye opener that was. It shows you how the TV networks, education system, Hollywood are driving The idea of America straight into the ground.

Let your kids watch Barney & Sesame Street so they won't bother you and accept our fate as a nation dependent on the liberal policies of a vast government.
