Do you oil every week?

Do you oil/grease your carry gun every week? The guy who runs our range told me that with a carry gun you should clean out the old grease and re-oil and grease it every week. I was doing mine every month but he said once a week will assure that the gun is well lubed. He said that a gun with no oil/grease will most likely fire a couple mags then start having problems.

So I now oil/grease every week to be sure of optimum performance if I need to use my carry gun.

I check mine several times a week, but only oil it 1-2 time month when it seems dry or when exposed to the elements. I will be more careful.

It really depends on what you are carrying to how much you should oil it. I had a LE firearm's instructor and Glock Armorer tell me that you could run 2000 rounds through a Glock and it still wouldn't jam and he gave all sorts of examples of people (that we didn't know) whom had done so. When I got up to 800 rounds without cleaning my Glock and not having a jam, I broke down and cleaned/oiled it. However, with the materials used on a Glock, less oil and not more oil is better. But there are firearms out there, that have a lot of metal-to-metal contact. Those weapons you must oil more liberally for them to behave effectively.

If you are using so much oil that you are getting a lot of dust and debris built up from carrying, then yes, you will want to re-clean the weapon and re-oil it. If not, well, it's silly to clean a clean weapon.

Oil??
My Glock's don't need no stinking oil!!

We have some rental Glocks that haven't been oiled, cleaned or serviced since the store opened..................seven years ago. They go through hundreds of rounds a month.
How can you tell how reliable something is going to be unless you abuse it?

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Why not take a few minutes to oil every week and have peace of mind that your gun will work properly? I personally don't care about dropping guns in mud and soaking them in water because I don't intend doing that while I carry a gun. We are not combat troops we are CCW people. So oiling a gun once a week to assure having a smooth running pistol to me is very worthwhile. I would do this even if I owned a Glock. A few drops of oil each week is not going to hurt a Glock.

I oil the slides on mine if they're being used because lint tends to build up. Otherwise, it's every month or so and after I fire them.

My Glock's despise being oiled more than once per year.
It's true, they told me so.

While I'm carefully white-greasing and oiling my PX4, I get the sense that if it could talk, it'd be saying "May I ask just what the ---k you're doing, you idiot...? Planning on a trip through a g--damn JUNGLE?"

Those Glocks are a different breed. I myself do not mind oiling once a week it gives me peace of mind to know my gun is ready if needed.

I don't own anything as nice as a Glock but my little Tomcat sat in a lockbox for around 2 years without me even looking at it. I finally got a new cleaning kit and blew the dust off the lockbox and gave the pistol a good cleaning. If you fire the weapon a lot then regular cleaning and very light oil is a good idea but you don't want to over do it. Too much and you'll do more harm than good because the excess oils will just attract dust and dirt into the parts of the gun. If it's going to sit for a time (like being stored) just a good full cleaning and light oil and keep it sealed up in a secure place and you won't have any worries.

Are you an obsessive gun cleaner too? Lol I go through lots of CLP, like a can a week.

Must admit my Sigs like to be run wet, not that I've had issues if I leave em sit a couple months without oiling, but lots of steel on steel contact, particularly when new and tight.

Beretta recommended that I wipe down with a light oil once a week, and oil the safety/decocker once a month (I do the same for the mag release). I am avoiding surface rust on the screws, and corrosion of the springs of the safety/decocker and mag release.

I generally only clean my guns after I shoot them. Maybe once a year otherwise. But then again I dont live by the ocean so I dont worry as much about the salt and humidity.

I inspect every time I pick it up, just like I've always done with every other gun, and clean and/or lube it as necessary.

I end up lubing it at least once a month- right after I shoot it and clean it. If I notice some dust bunnies or dirt on it, it gets cleaned an oiled in between shootings. That being said, lubing once a week without shooting it is a waste of gun oil. I've also shot- with help from a couple friends- 500 rounds through my P-13 in a day once and it never even hesitated. The slide wasn't as smooth working when it was over as when we started (it was all reloads and I was using a LOT of Bullseye back then), but it functioned fine. My Hi Power has seen 300 rounds in a day as well and never had the slightest problem.

In Glock, we trust. I "dust" off the tiny bit of lint that accumulates around the trigger every week or so..that's it.
