Do you load 8 rounds in the magazine, then chamber a round? Are you breaking the law?

Are you breaking the law until you chamber the round? How much time is allotted , if any.

Shouldn't I be able to load my spare ten round mags with 8.

Or do we have to drop the mag to add the seventh round.

I'm sure the law varies from state to state. In my mind that is the most dangerous way to concealed carry unless you're walking the streets in a very dangerous area, which I would avoid anyways. It's always assumed there is one in the chamber anyways. It only takes a second to rack, and if you're using a revolver it's there already anyways. I never put one in the chamber until I'm ready to fire!

It takes 1.7 sec for an average male to run 21 feet and stab you. Can you draw from concealment, rack the slide, aim and fire with a huge adrenaline dump? And who says you see the guy attacking you? Ever heard of the element of surprise?
What you're doing is reducing a firing gun to a useless chunk of polymer and steel. Why don't you just carry a rock in your pocket instead? It's just as useful.

Probably about as fast too, with drawing, racking the slide then getting it on aim.

I always carry plus 1 but don't live in N.Y. If something were to happen where I need my firearm, getting it out and racking the slide is an extra step I don't need.

My family and my life is worth more than supporting stupidity. Thank God I live in Texas my senators voted against gun control and I am proud of them and will continue to support them, every gun owner in NY should file a lawsuit against the state.

I don't know where you live, but come to Oklahoma. I have a magazine with 15 on my left hip and a gun with15+1 on my right hip. Oh and I don't have to hide either of them, if I so wish.

So it really depends on where you live and the state laws.

Today, I am OCing two on my right side. 14+1, with 10 in the extra mag pouch, then 10+1 right behind it in a fitted leather holster. I feel blessed living in an OC friendly state! Glad I left NY.

Big mistake. If the BG comes at you from around the gas pump, you will not have time to rack the slide. If you're trying to fend him off with one arm, how are you going to do so with only one arm? Countless other scenarios play out the same way.

Get comfortable and familiar with your gun, so that keeping one in the chamber is second nature.

This...is foolish and shows a serious lack of understanding the probabilities of an armed self-defense situation. It takes two hands to chamber a round - you had better hope one of them is not injured or busy.

Not having one in the chamber makes me feel uncomfortable. We don't live in the movies, the bad guy doesnt have lines to say before he shoots, and I promise he isn't pointing a gun with an empty chamber.

I think I am probably more proficient with a handgun than your average criminal, I train and practice to be just that. But that doesn't mean I'm going to handicap myself by not having a round chambered.

I just tried to rack the slide one handed with my least resistant gun...walther p22. Couldnt do it. There is no substitute for that second hand pulling the slide rearward.

What a sad friggin affair you guys have in New York!
I can't even write how I really feel about it because I would be banned.
Just a sad friggin affair..

And nobody else has the great deal you guys have in Vermont and have always had. Maybe someday we can all be like Vermont.

However, I guess it creates problems with reciprocity with other states except Arizona, Alaska and Oklahoma.

I'm willing to give up reciprocity to enjoy the freedoms I have in my state. My family lives in New Hampshire and no permit is needed for open carry!
Most of my bases are covered!

I carry 8 + 1 in my colt with two backup 8 mags in belt, when carrying P-13 carry 13 +1 and two back up 13 round mags sand will do so till I decide to quit, sometimes I carry 4 backup 8 round mags.

Kids are getting arrested for wearing pro gun tshirts. Suspended from school for chewing pop tarts into gun shapes.

Taking that into account, if it was me, I'd drop the mag to load the 8th one in.
