Do you carry a BUG?

Do you carry a BUG (back up gun)? Why or why not? Also, please explain how you carry your primary and your BUG.

Personally, I do not. My state makes it illegal to carry more than one concealed handgun at a time. Granted, I could open carry a 'primary' firearm and have a concealed firearm as a BUG. However, I feel that i'd be just as well served 99% of the time by simply carrying extra mags. I'd be interested in hearing the training regimen or reasons behind those who do choose to carry multiple firearms though. :)

I usually carry a back up gun. I think that it is probably more psychological than anything. In the Army there is a saying that one is none and two is one meaning that things go bad at the worst possible time and it can't hurt to have an extra firearm. Usually I just carry a sub-compact version of my full size carry gun that may use the same magazines. This only applies in pants weather because I carry my back up gun in a ankle-holster. In the summer I carry a small caliber pocket gun (in my pocket) as my backup with one extra mag in my back pocket. It may not be for everybody, 99% of the time if we need to use our firearm, it will suffice, but then again we don't carry our primary gun for the 99% of the time do we, we carry it for that small percent of the time where we need to defend ourself. After my service at another address I got used to carrying a gun and when I got back I felt really naked and exposed without a firearm so I got my CCW and for me the natural projection was to think worst case scenario hence the back up piece.

Always, a 380 in my hip pocket and a 38 snubbie in my boot in an ankle holster. Always have, always will, so that I got a little bit of an advantage on "Murphy's Law." I even have another in my vehicle. Again, be prepared against the unexpected. Been doing this since 1972 and long before there were CCW forums and relatively easy access to getting CHL's.

Sometimes..depends on where I am going and what I am wearing. Why? Damned interesting question and I suppose it is mostly because I can - I want to. My EDC is a G26 AIWB; when I carry a BUG it is a Taurus .380 on an ankle holster. Sometimes I may carry the only .380, again depending on where and wear.

I carry Two Snubs at all times. One is always a 357 SP101 or LCR, AIWB. The other is in my Left Front Pocket, a LCR 357 or a S&W 442 38+P. I carry the back up for a few reasons. The New York Reload, as it is called, is the first. If my Right hand is not able to access my Main Carry for what ever reason my left hand can use the back up. If I would need to arm another person who can handle a Firearm and does not carry, like my wife. I like Guns. I like carrying them. If I could I would carry more and I have. NO! I am not a Cowboy, my Guns are always concealed, I don't brag or tell anyone that I carry. I am not looking to ever use them and hope I never do. It is my choice to be able to protect my self but using a Firearm would be my last choice, I also carry Pepper Spray and have used it. When I work the Gun Shop the Customers don't even know I carry unless they ask to see what or how I carry. It's up to each individual what is Right for them. I have read a number of books that mention the subject of carrying multiple firearms. A few of the Authors are Evan Marshal, Massad Ayoob, Frank James,Chis Bird, Robert Waters, and Jim Cirillo, just to mention a few.

no bug here i only have one gun but would like to see about a tactical knife to help in case someone decides they want to try and take that gun off my person and has their hand on it whilst holstered........i learned if that happens to try and push the hand on my gun down and slash the bg's wrist or whatever i can to stop bg's from getting my firearm........but if i had a second or smaller gun i might carry it as well at times

I'm with The Dark on this. It depends.

Typically I do not. But if I'm going to be in a "questionable" area, or I know it'll be late at night, etc. I will.

But also my main carry gun goes from a Glock 27 with one spare magazine to a SW1911 with two spare magazines. Then my BUG is a SW 642 38 Special +p.

Texas allows you to carry as much weight as you feel like, on occasion I carry a backup in same cal as primary.

I think my back up gun is my knife lol . I think .38 spl plus p five rounds is enough if I need more I got a hammer of a weapon . And a knife

I carry my Glock 19 concealed on my hip. I carry my LCP BUG in my hip pocket. Like ArmyRanger, its probably psychological. I feel more comfortable with a back up on me. One benefit of the LCP is I can reach in my pocket and actually have it in my hand concealed while walking across a parking lot or in a shady situation.
