Do you carry a Backup

Haven't found a thread on this but do you carry a backup and is it the same cal as your primary?

Glock 21 (.45ACP) 13+1 & Spare mag
Taurus 738TCP (.380ACP) 6+1 & Spare mag
Plus a light and blade

If you can afford a backup, I'd get one. That's my .02 cents

I carry an M&P 40 loaded and 2 extra mags. My back up is a 38 special loaded with 2 speed loaders. The back up is in an ankle holster.

I carry a M&P 45 primary & a M&P 40 backup both with extra mag. Plus on 2nd backup is my wife who has a slim 9mm.

Depending on where I am going, either an M&P Shield 40, Sig 229 or 1911 on the waist and a J frame or the Shield on my ankle

Personally (and I am a gun nut who carries all the time), I think any non law enforcement, non military person who thinks they need to carry a backup is probably a nut job and at least takes themselves too seriously!

I think one gun is enough for me to carry and do the job of protecting me. Two guns would just tire me out quicker.

Well most of the time I would have a gun that you could consider "backup" but I don't really carry it with those intentions but rather because it's just so easy to drop in my pocket and just forget about it. My primary carry is usually an M&P 9mm Full Size and occasionally I'll opt out for the Ruger SR40c instead if looking for a deeper concealed primary weapon. The "backup" I previously mentioned is a Bodyguard 380 that I ALWAYS carry in my pants pocket (in a pocket holster of course).

I was an LEO for 20 years and only carried (under the seat) a back up 9MM semi-auto when we had a hold up man robbing banks using an Uzi. At the time, all were were allowed to carry were .38 revolvers and I figured speed loaders were slower than another gun.

Is a back up a good idea for a LEO? Probably, but I could not afford one at the time.

I am now retired and do not see the need to carry a backup gun, although I do carry an extra mag when carrying my 7 shot 9MM.

I'm a single gun guy...G26 IWB. The one exception I make are those rare occasions (Thank God) that I have to go into North Las Vegas...the crime capital of the Vegas Valley. Then, I slide an LC9 in the holster inside my 5.11 vest for a second gun.

Yes on both counts; two 38 Special revolvers.

NM does not allow a backup, But I feel fine with one and a extra mag.

Glock 29sf 10mm IWB with XD-40 SubCompact in vehicle as I obey the law and wear my seat belt which hinders drawing my carry.

If you're curious why I don't unholster and conceal carry in vehicle, I find that it draws much unwanted attention to pull a firearm out prior to entering vehicle and drawing while seated poses a safety hazard.
