Do Gun free zones extend to parking lots?

Hello,

I am a Michigan resident with a valid Concealed Pistol License and will be traveling to Outer Banks N.C. My question is with regards to the gun free zones i know you cannot carry into places that charge admission and places that serve alcohol by the glass but does that include the parking lots of said areas? For example, if i go to a restaurant that serves alcohol and lock my pistol in my vehicle before entering the building am i good to go or can i not possess a firearm on the property period? Thanks in advance for any input!

The only place in Missouri you cannot take a concealed firearm is a federal building. Say target for an example if it says no guns you go in with your gun concealed and they notice it's the only thing they can do is tell you to leave if you leave your ok.once you don't leave is when you're breaking the law, you can receive up to 100 dollar fine

They don't extend to the parking lots, no.

Cool, that's good to know. Under Michigan law parking lots are specifically exempt from pistol free zones. I searched N.C gun laws and the only thing i could find pertaining to parking lots were rules for state legislative grounds so i wasn't sure if the parking lot issue was one of those gray areas that our laws like to impose on us. Thanks for the reply!

They could in theory declare their parking lot a gun free zone but they'd have to somehow let you know.

Right, no gun signs carry are backed by the force of law in N.C but unless there is a sign in the parking lot i would assume you would be ok.

The one issue are schools, you have to stay clear of them because in that case the entire area within 1,000 ft of the school is a gun free zone. Unless you have a valid permit from NC that is.

Yes the gun free school zone act is a pain for out of state travel luckily I seem to be outside of any school zone for the places I plan on being.
