In another thread about carrying concealed at Disney, I mentioned that I used to be a manager at Walt Disney World.

I also said that Gay Days at Disney were very trouble free days for the Cast Members (Disney employees are called Cast Members). I always enjoyed them because in addition to the male homosexuals, there were a lot of lesbians who chose to wear as little as they could get away with on these days.

Every year, Disney hosts a weekend celebration called Night of Joy. The park closes at 7pm and then is open for these special ticket holders till midnight. It is a christian themed party. They have christian bands and the guests get the run of the park. What happens is that the parents turn their "good christian sons and daughters" loose while they go and enjoy themselves. The teenagers then become the problem of the Cast Members. I have broken up fights on rides, and orgies in dark areas. The amount of trash that is thrown on the ground is much larger than normal. We always had issues with guests (parents, mostly) refusing to follow the rules. They would climb over walls and planters because they didn't want to wait in line or refused to accept the fact that a music ampitheater was filled to capacity.

Grads Night is held on 2 successive weekends. High school seniors come in dozens of busses and take over the park like Night of Joy. For the most part, they are pretty well behaved. The chaperones, while few in number, really do their best to keep the kids from getting out of hand. Things DO happen though.

I still have some of the "Cast Cards" that we were issued for these nights. They have important information on the back that Cast Members need to know (i.e. who is playing and at what time, which restaurants are closed, etc).

I also enjoyed Halloween parties as well. The kids were always so cute in their costumes.

And just how to they get by calling them self a "Family Park"....

Sounds to me like it is what it is...none of it hard to believe unless one would have preferred it otherwise.

That is shocking, but I can believe it. Christians are people, too. Unfortunately, some of them are very self-righteous-- probably/especially the same ones that would demand a special event night like that.

Thanks for sharing these stories. Bring on more if you've got 'em. I'm curious about the "other side".

Very simple...Disney is open to EVERYBODY. They don't discriminate based on age, race, color, sexual orientation, etc. Gay Days are not sponsored by Disney. They are organized and sponsored by groups outside of the company. Disney just turns a blind eye to it unless they don't follow the rules. Believe it or not, Gay people have families too.

I don't think I'm biased. I had many, many experiences working at Disney that were wonderful and I will cherish those memories till I die.

Most of the time you are inside the parks, you are on camera. If you are in a dark ride, or one that travels through dark areas, you are guaranteed to be on camera. In dark areas, they use low light cameras. Most attractions and shows have cameras pointed at the audience. That does not mean that you are being filmed at all times, nor that someone is watching your particular movements on any given monitor. However, there is always the possibility that you ARE being filmed, or that someone is watching.

I will be glad to tell Disney stories, but I won't reveal any real secrets about the operations. I can say that even though I saw all the behind the scenes stuff, I still got a thrill whenever I was walking through the tunnels and one of the princesses (Cinderella, Ariel, Belle, etc) would smile at me.

Speaking of the tunnels, there is a network of tunnels under the Magic Kingdom called the Utilidor. It is actually the first floor, so when you are walking around in the park, you are on the second floor.
 
Lakelandman, I said your story seemed biased for a few reasons. The first was that no group other than the christians was referred to as anything other than their name, the Christians got some sarcastic quotes. You also claimed on night of joy that the biggest problems were parents there, and that simultaneously the children were all alone since the parents sent the kids to park alone so the parents could enjoy themselves. I have worked at Disney, universal, attended Disney as a patron during gay days, grad night, and night of joy...since 10th grade I have had no less than 20 friends working the parks at any one time. All of the groups have their own issues and I would simply like to restate my point that your original post is biased and go ahead and add non-factual. I fail to see the actual point of this thread than to rile people up since it seems to be an unsolicited review of people groups that for some reason has more acceptability because it is based on age/lifestyle that it would if it were on something equally ridiculous like race. I also think we can all avoid the family parks shouldn't allow certain people argument as Disney happens to be located in America and has a right to do whatever they want.

First of all, my comments and stories WERE solicited. In another thread, I was asked to post some stories of my experiences working at Disney.

Second, My stories ARE factual. I don't have a bias against any particular group. The facts are what they are, and the fact is that Night of Joy was the event that gave us the most problems. If you worked at Disney, was it at the Magic Kingdom, and did you work during Night of Joy? I worked that event for 4 years straight, as well as Grad Night, Gay Days, Pirate & Princess parties, Halloween parties, and Christmas parties. I am only recounting MY experiences.

I started out working Tomorrowland Attractions before moving to Food & Beverage. I have worked in the magic Kingdom and a short 5 month period at Hollywood Studios. I have seen and done a lot in that time. When you compare all the events that I have worked (and attended as a guest), one will always be the best, and one will always be the worst. All the others will fall somewhere in between.

I take exception at you questioning my integrity by claiming that I am posting false information. If you choose not to believe what I say, then I suggest that you don't read any further in this thread. But nothing I have said is untrue.

If you let a bunch of teenagers loose in a park that size with little to no supervision, things are going to happen. I doesn't matter if they are Christian, zen Buddhist or anything else. Likely during the "Night of Joy" there was a much higher concentration of kids in the park than the other special events except for the Grad Night. I will say that it probably seemed worse than it was since everyone expects a group of Christians to be perfect (I'm not saying it was all a matter of perception though).

I've been to Disney World once and I enjoyed it, though honestly I liked Epcot more. When my little boy gets old enough we will probably take him.

I generally agree with that. Kids can be stupid. We were all kids once. Some of us were more stupid than others. :)
 
Lakelandman: I've heard rumors that Disney has a first responder team (read: SWAT) that can be positioned to locations within Magic Kingdom (and I guess the other parks as well) via that underground corridor system you described. Can you confirm that?

Somebody once even said they wore polo shirts with an embroidered Mickey Mouse carrying an AR-15. That seems a bit fantastic to me, though, because I imagine one of those polos would have leaked and sold for a lot on ebay or something by now!
 
Keep 'em coming, Lakeland...and Winston, thank you for asking. At least it gets us all out of the gun thingie even for a little while, while it last. Someone will at least get them in at one stage or another...Cheers...

I don't think this is giving away any trade secrets, but here comes my question:

Can you really walk from one end of the park to the other in 10 minutes using the 1st fl corridors?

The Utilidor (tunnel) is laid out like a large circle with a central corridor running north/south through it. Where the Cast Members get off the bus would be at the "south" end of that corridor. That is approximately behind/under Cinderella Castle. The Mouseketeria (read: food) is there. The other end of that tunnel is under Main Street USA. Then the circle branches out to the other lands. For example, if you enter the tunnel, and then turn left, you head to Tomorrowland first. If you turn right, you go towards Liberty Square and Frontierland. It takes 10 to 15 minutes to navigate from one end to the other depending where you are and how fast you walk.

There are also "pargos" which use the tunnels. They are like an industrial golf cart used for carrying people and supplies around and under the park. (they are painted yellow)

As for a "Quick Response Team", I would say No. In my 4 years there, I never heard any rumors of any such thing, and it would surprise me if there WAS such a thing. Disney Security is unarmed. They leave Law Enforcement to the professionals. NEVER would a logo of Mickey Mouse holding an AR-15 be sanctioned by the imagineers. They guard the intellectual property right fiercely.

I have been on a walking tour of the Haunted Mansion before opening, and I've seen how they do the effects. VERY COOL! When new Cast Members start in the Magic Kingdom, they are given a walking tour of the park, and the facilitators always tell a story about the Haunted Mansion, and how it came to be. No two of those stories are the same. Each person tells their own version. Disney encourages imagination. They often describe themselves as a company of story tellers.
