Did I miss something

I understand a lot of ammunition flying off the shelves but what's up with 22lr selling out too???

If you remember back to 08-09 it did the same thing. Everyone is stocking up on 22lr as well.

Yea I was trying to pick some up for this weekend today and there was literally NO .22lr left in the Phoenix/Glendale area. Completely tapped out. Only reasons I can think of is A.) Super cheap bulk ammo (people are scared of a crazy ammo tax) and B.) Lots of AR style .22 semi autos....so they wanted to fill up for those while they can.

Don't worry when we have no ammo for our guns. We will all half to use rocks and sling shots. Rocks are free lol

1) .22 lr is the #1 survival round out there. In real survival situations, you won't be eating venison or bear meat, you'll be eating squirrel, rabbit, maybe even chipmunk, whatever you can get your hands on. And no matter what you get your hands on today, it may be another week or two before you see some edible meat runnin' around again. Remember, everyone else is trying to survive and depleting the food supply just as willy-nilly as you will be.

2) .22 lr is a great way to train, whether for advanced shooters or beginners. It should remain relatively cheap, while center-fire cartridges really have no upper limit depending on what the supply chain does. Where dads once thought they could be the only one in the house trained to react, now that widespread chaos is being considered a possibility by more and more "normal" people, they're training their wives and kids to shoot defensively too, and what better way to start than with a .22?

3) While not my cup of tea, there is a fairly large group of people who believe .22 lr has very good primary defensive weapon capabilities. You get a .22 AR or 1022 that can hold 20 or 30 rounds, and chances are you can put all 20 or 30 rounds right where you're aiming, as well as being able to remain sighted on-target between shots. 10 rounds of .22 going into basically the same hole in a target may well be easier to accomplish than putting three rounds center mass from a .308 due to the recoil and losing your sight-picture between rounds, and those 10 rounds add up in weight and killing power the tighter your group is.

Whatever reason might apply to a given individual, I don't think there's ever been a time in modern history when .22 lr wasn't among the top-selling rounds in this country, if not the top-selling round right on down the line.

I think BluesStringer covered it for the most part... cheap to practice with and great for varmint plinking! Not to mention, although I agree I wouldn't consider it a top defense round, I wouldn't want to have someone shooting at me with one -- not even from 300-400 yds.

If the feces hits the fan, I'm putting my 15 year old son on the roof with his scoped 10/22 -- he can shoot the azz off a nat at 100 yds with that thing! lol

Santa brought a lot of people the Ruger 10/22 takedown for Christmas (including me). When I went to the range last Fri. to sight it in, there were about 6 or 7 people (besides myself) with brand new 10/22. That being said, .22LR is relatively inexpensive, readily available. That makes it easy for people like me to get lots of practice both with rifle and semi-aauto handgun. Besides, these guns are just really fun to shoot.

Back in my pappy's day there were a lot of deer poached using nothing but a single shot .22. Head shot only. No spoiled meat.

I think its all "Panic" buying. The public don't know whats going to go next. Right now you can't find 9mm anywhere. I have to 40s and I'm buying all the ammo I can afford. Plus, I don't go to the range as much. I hope this will all die down BUT who knows!!!:secret:

I agree with bluesstringer - 22LR is very common round, so much so that just about every popular gun type has a 22LR conversion kit.. I have read lots of gun magazines with plenty of advertising for 22LR conversion kits - been seeing more and more types of conversion kits, since slick willie was in office.. most 22LR guns are also far cheaper then other caliber guns - no matter brand/etc.. if its 22LR version of it its 100-200+ cheaper.
