Two officers at the New Haven Police Academy when their firearms instructor accidentally fired a live gun in their classroom.

Officer Ryan Przybylski was struck on the forehead while Officer Bobby Jones was struck on the arm when ricochet fragments from the bullet hit them.

These are the people we trust to know what they are doing with firearms. But we have a problem trusting private citizens with the same firearms. This was no accident. Someone had to pull a trigger. At least one of the rules of firearm safety was violated.

"Accident" my butt! The charge a civilian would get is criminal negligence resulting in bodily harm. Ruling this an accident is just the "good old boy network" functioning at peak efficiency!

They should put this moron "instructor" and Lee Paige in a locked room with weapons for 15 minutes to see how many fingers, toes, and other body parts get shot off. I bet they'd get a new world record!

Question that comes to mind here is why is a gun loaded in a classroom setting?
Oh, and I read somewhere I can't remember, that only 18% of police cadets qualify on their first outing at the range, and a lot of negligent discharges occur. I have business at a police academy on a regular basis, and I always feel better to see the cadets with blue guns - sometimes I think that's all they should have - just pull it and shout "bang, bang, bang" a few times when they finally go on patrol.
