Any one have any experience with Cimmaron Derringers? Thinking about getting one in 38 Sp. to use as a back up piece. Probably get an ankle holster for it. Originally wanted the Bond Arms 45, but it's twice the $$$

I would want something a little more modern like a LCP for a BUG. If you want to get all realistic well any backup is better than nothing when your primary either runs out of ammo or has a malfunction, but in the tiny chance that i would ever need to use my primary, and the even smaller chance that i would need to use the backup, i would be looking for something at least in the 6 shot range like an LCP or even a nice small J-Frame.

I think a 357 magnum S&W Snub would make a perfect BUG, and the range should really beat the derringers which have very limited range.

EDIT::

How about a 38 SPL +P S&W 1.87" @ only $419?

That will probably be my BUG @ next purchase.

That's a nice looking S&W-wish I saw one before I bought my sp101. I have an old derringer in .38sp but have found that it doesn't shoot very well would not trust as a backup. You might want to consider something along the lines of a kel tech .380 it's a very small auto with 6+1cap light and only around $250.

I just don't think a derringer has much place other than a collection, being as they are known to have poor accuracy at even the smallest of distances and the poor capacity as well.

I think any of the hot 380s can make a good backup, like the LCP, TCP, or the keltec . I really like the Kahr P380 but the price is further north than most will pay.

I've got a Bond Arms with 410/45, 22lr and I ordered a 3 1/2" 357 Mag Barrel. I think it would be too heavy to carry in a ankle Holster. I have trouble with heavy shoes because of my Knees and hips.

I use a shoulder Holster, Left side while driving Van and right side while on the Motorcycle or Motor Scooter. Has plenty of range for the purpose it's intended for and I also have my SP101 in my belt. Also I don't like Auto's.

I would love to get a well made copy of the Remington 3rd model derringer same size and weight, in a modern caliber. The Remington's are fun to shoot, but BP .41 just doesn't do it for me.

I wish someone would come out with a remake of the HJS Frontier Four Derringer. It amazes me that Ken Friel over at North American Arms hasn't done it yet.

That is an excellent idea. I used to have one, and I foolishly let it get away from me.:cray:

I often carry a .357 Mag COP. These are out of production and usually engender quite a bit of debate. I have had two of them and found mine to be easy to conceal but heavy for thier size. But not so much so as to keep me from often taking it along. I definately don't feel underguned and can put all four rounds where they need to go at what I concider to be reasonable self defence range. Derringers are not for everyone but there are those of us who use them for any number of reasons. For many others I am sure my COP would be a poor choice.

In Cowboy Action Shooting we use a derringer in a side match. Cowboys consistantly hit 2-playing cards 3 to 4 inches apart, from a range of 5 to 6 feet, in under one second, from the low ready position. Not bad I would say.

Well, I did it! Bought the Bond Arms in 9mm. Took it to the range & was quite impressed with this little gun. Not much kick or recoil in the 9mm, and from 7 yds. it was pretty accurate. Will be getting the .45/410 barrel after XMas.

Sorry for the "Grease" referance, but tell me more, tell me more. :man_in_love: I have never gotten a chance to fire a Frontier Four :sad: but I have always found the design interesting. I think it would be neat if NAA would make a 22WMR version.

They are very fun and cheap to shoot. They fit in the watch pocket of most blue jeans.:biggrin:
