defending a knife attacker.

The thread got me thinking but im not going to hijack it..... So me's gots a question.

I always carry a small can Of sabre mace, (cannot bring a gun on base) assuming a knife attacker tryed to "get me" and say I got a car inbetween us should I mace him across the car? I would assume this would throw him off to give me a upper hand in getting away. I can also see this really pissing him off and me having to draw my gun (assuming I have it) but at least if I shoot him I could claim at least I tryed to do a non fatal option.

Whats your take armed/unarmed. I carry this Link Removed
other options always on me are a leatherman and a 250 lumen flashlight with a nasty bezel.

PS. if my spelling is not up to your standard live with it im a tech

If you're not trained to use a knife either defensively of offensively, you will most likely be outmatched by someone that is, that of course assumes your attacker is trained. Some would say a knife wound is worse than a gunshot wound. I won't argue that here. But staying as far away from a knife wielding loon is always the best strategy.

When you're making the decision to deploy any aerosol defense, make sure the wind is at your back.

Odd that you would indicate you cannot carry your gun "on base" and in the same paragraph ask if you should mace the attacker to give you enough time to draw your gun.

IMHO if I have my gun on me and I am accosted by a knife wielding loon, my first reaction is to put distance and cover between me and him. The gun will come out before the mace.

If you already have a car between you run like Hell.

first rule of knife fighting is "You're going to get cut."

So if you had mace you would not use it to possible help you run away you would just run? I would assume the guy would have a smaller chance of catching me with a burning face/eyes. I am also not totally defensless Im 28 and in fairly good shape but im not fighting a guy with a knife. My plan has always been get distance, IF there is time spray with mace to increase my odds of getting away. (un armed). (armed) I would more then likely have my gun out 1st and if i had a car in the way I would try to use the mace with my left hand over the car to stop the problem. If guy is moving around the car guess I will see how the gold dots work.

EDIT some things not relevent.

If I already have a car between us? Sure am. The only way I win a fight like that is if I get away w/ out being hurt

The way you wrote that it sounds like you'd mace the guy if he was on the far side of the car and not trying to get to you. Is that correct?

Agreed getting away and not getting hurt is successful no matter how you get there in my book.

For the second part I meant giving him the spray after we ran a bit and are now walking around the car a bit(maybe I’m to tired to run anymore). I’m just looking for ideas nothing is set in stone in this scenario though I am open to all suggestions.

If he is motivated enough, mace wont affect him. He will feel it only after his adrenaline has wore off and you have been cut.

I would just run
