If it wasn't for trees and plant life in general, we would all be dead by now.
Through osmosis, plants take in carbon dioxide and produce oxygen during the day.
At night, the process is reversed.
Plant life is our natural "scrubber" of our atmosphere.
Keep on cutting them down and see what happens......

In most places the same companies that harvest the lumber also replant the forests. Often times they'll reseed them with pine trees, which grow relatively quickly when compared to other trees, and wait until they can be harvested again.
