Curious about Non-Resident permits.

I was reading and saw the thread Here that mentioned getting a UT or FL license for most state of carry. I'd seen that a couple of states have non-resident but never much information about getting or what the details of having would be.

My question is would I retain my current and would it require another complete FBI Fingerprint check. Could a license from say Indiana which has a lifetime replace my Arkansas license which is only valid for 5 years?

Thanks

Click on Concealed Carry Resources at the top of this page. It will take you to all of the details.

Yes.

and would it require another complete FBI Fingerprint check.

Depends upon the state law of the state whose license you are applying for. Chances are great the answer is yes, another complete FBI fingerprint/background check would be required.

It would appear so.....

Arkansas Revised Statute:
§5-73-321. Recognition of other states' permits.
(a) Any person in possession of a valid license issued by another state to carry a concealed handgun issue to the person by another state is entitled to the privileges and subject to the restrictions prescribed by this subchapter if the state that issued the license to carry a concealed handgun recognizes a license to carry a concealed handgun issued under this subchapter.
(b) The Director of the Department of Arkansas State Police shall:
(1) Make a determination as to which states' licenses to carry concealed handguns will be recognized in Arkansas and provide that list to every law enforcement agency within the state; and
(2) Revise the list from time to time and provide the revised list to every law enforcement agency in this state.

Don't get in a hurry to drop your AR permit.

The superintendent may not issue a lifetime qualified license or a lifetime unlimited license to a person who is a resident of another state

IMO, if one is able to get a permit in their home state, they should first of all have that. Other state permits are then helpful to extend the range of where one may travel armed.

Actually, many times this Federal 1000' School Zone prohibition is forgotten about. It is 18 USC 922(q) and makes it illegal, in most cases, to carry a loaded gun within 1000' of school premises unless the person has a license issued by the same state the school zone is located in. So, a person with an Indiana permit only would violate Federal law if they carried a loaded gun within 1000' of a school in any state except Indiana.

Thanks for the information. It would seem that a lifetime being only for residents pretty much makes that a moot point. It would also appear that getting a UT or FL would be more beneficial than IN unless I were to become a perm resident of IN.

I appreciate the responses and information greatly.

You might check AZ. I know that if you get one for that state their is about 37 others states recognize theirs.
