Crossing State Lines with Weapon Ptemitts

I have never traveled to another state that honored my permit. I would fly into a state meet up with a friend that was carrying a firearm. Now that things are the way they are in this country, I think I would feel safe carrying my firearm. I have a resident license and a non resident of Utah. I will be going through IA, NE, CO, and UT. I maybe going to AZ and to WY. According to different sources I can carry in all of these states. Does anyone know of any restrictions that I need to be aware of in those states. I want to thank anyone who writes in advance.

These type of questions are asked many times and answers will flow from members with best intentions--some good and correct, others not so good and correct. This forum has a base of information that will allow you to read the requirements of all states. I would suggest you spend some time, read what the forum has developed, and make your own determinations--after all it is you that will suffer the consequences if mistakes are made and to think that you did not do your own due diligence is irresponsible.

Just a reminder of the gun free school zone act. You cant carry 1000' of a school without a permit issued by that state. You can carry near a school in Utah (with your non res utah), but use a map to know were the schools are while in the other states. Dont drive by a school!

+1 When you get arrested, do not use the excuse, "But the guys on the Internet said..."

At the top of this page you will find links to a concealed carry map and concealed carry info. The main purpose of the site. Spend some time there and also at Handgunlaw.us. They have links to the state agencies that deal with permits both resident & non-resident if applicable, plus reciprosity with which states. It's the answer I give my students, because I'm not a legal reference for all 57 states.

FWIW the OP purports to be a cop. Shouldn't he be able to carry anywhere under LEOSA?

You would think so. LEOSA doesn't exempt an LEO from all state laws and doesn't allow one to carry on an aircraft. So while given more latitude, an LEO still needs to research each states laws and maybe go one step further and make a call to the state Attorney General or Police agency. Initially N.Y.C. (bloomborg) wasn't going to recognize LEOSA. Not sure about the rest of the state.
