just got a call from some Lieutenant Colonel telling me my hangar is filling up with water from the freak storm tonight. lovely! Here is a photo from the mall just a few miles away from the crazy hail storm Link Removed note: I will not be answering my phone if it rings again tonight cuz there is no way I am driving the 46 miles to work for something that can wait till tomorrow haha.

Sometimes it sucks being the facility manager for my hangar! I always get the inconvenient phone calls from someone trying to get me to come in to take care of stuff like this.

I've never seen a hail storm cause this kind of chaos!

I am in Colorado Springs and the commute home was insane. Moving walls of hail and rain were swallowing passenger cars and taller vehicles were past the hood. Glad I made it home at all. Crazy.

weird!! The weather was perfect up here! Guess I was above the storm since I live at 8,300ft

The LtCol said he wanted to call my commander to let him know what was going on. I told him NO! No reason to bother my commander, he can be filled in tomorrow morning. I get irritated when they bother him with stuff that can wait. besides, I am the facility manager and can notify people myself when I feel necessary.

CRW I'm 39 and in perfect health and I called my mom to tell her I love her because I wasn't sure how this would end. I drive a 1998 Toyota Corolla and the water was at my door handle at times. I was stuck at Constitution and had to abort because the water kept rising by Academy Blvd.

dang!!! I had no idea this was occuring. Glad you are okay!! Hopefully things will clear up quickly and this doesn't happen again

I'm sure kktv will have the video and pictures on their web site. Good luck with the clean up at work. I'll be purchasing a blow up raft for my SHTF trunk stash. Geez

In 1986, our hangar filled up with water up to 7 ft. Then in 1993 it went up to 15 feet. Now each of us who own hangars at our airport pay for our property tax that includes a levy fee at a commercial rate. The levy is for good for 500 years so we were told....we lost 6 of our airplanes at the time and had since decided we're just going to maintain 4 of them. We gave away parts to other flying clubs and only have what we needed now to keep our airplanes going should they need replacements. Floods can be a bugger of a thing to happen but you get to know who your friends really are in these kind of happening...and after.

sounds like what happened at Perryville years ago when the river flooded the entire area. Still can't believe they built that place in the flood plain

Yes, it is flat lands over there near the Missouri River but it has beautiful sceneries around. At both floods, everyone scrambled to the hangars and helped each other flew their planes out and helped others too flies extra planes out to higher grounds. Now we have a second floor to our hangar and one of our aircraft hanged from the rafters and another on a lift. Most times nowadays all of them are on ground floor.

What is good about our airport is the camaraderie we have around there where people are willing to help one another. What we are sorry about is that our airport manager who couldn't care less about the flight of the rest of us. So if anyone of us need something, we go to the owners of the airport to talk to them instead and either of them will call the manager to get his act together.
