couple questions form the new guy.

I am scheduled to take the CCW class in Missouri mid January. I have an outstanding failure to appear in Texas for paying a fine late for dropping a cigarette out my window. The fine was late and they slapped me with another 500.00. Stubbornness and finances have not allowed this to be taken care of so I am wondering if this will get me during the background check. From what I have read I dont think it will but I am sure someone here is much more knowledgeable about this stuff than I. I have called the sheriffs office and am waiting on a call back but thought I would just ask here. The other question, If I go ahead and take the class, how long is it good for? Should I take the class then worry about and pay the other fine when I can? Thanks for the your help. I have been lurking here for a while and am amazed at the knowledge here.

Personally I would take care of your obligation before you risk it. Here you have to go to the sheriffs office to get finger prints and then go back to pick up your license. Id hate to go back to pick up my license and get thrown in jail on the spot. Just my opinion

The class is only good for as long as local laws say it is. My permit application had a within 6 months provision i think... might have been 3.

Yeah, it looks like Texas is gonna get some more of my money. I called the Sheriff's office and they said if it came up they would deny the permit. The class here in Missouri does not expire at this time so that will give me some time to raise 500 bucks to give away.

I had a guy get denied on a perches of a AR-15 Lower because of unpaid ticket in California. He had to pay off the ticket before they would clear his record at NICS.

As a Texan I can see why you would get a fine for throwing out a cigarette. Because of the drought, much of the state is/has been under constant threat of wildfires and on a hot summer day a cigarette can easily start it. But $500 for being late is just wrong, IMO. I hope you get it taken care of soon and get on with better things such as your CHL.
