Nampa Man Dies After Brother Mistakes Him for Intruder

A 28-year-old Nampa, Idaho man died early Saturday morning after receiving a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim apparently entered a residence in the 400 block of 2nd Avenue North in Nampa, startling his brother awake. The brother, age 21, shot the victim with a handgun.

At this time there have not been any charges against the 21-year-old. Police are still investigating and have not released the men's names.

Two other adults were asleep in the home at the time of the shooting.

Tragic but could happen given the right/wrong circumstances.

I will Update as more info. is made available.

Perfect case for knowing your target. This is a tragic story, however, it is a good reminder to anyone who sleeps with their gun to know what's normal in your household. Second, don't give out keys if you're jumpy.

Any time I enter my home I call out "Hey I'm home" so the wife knows it's me
You mean you don't have a safeword like "Asparagus" to let the little wife know you're home unaccompanied and without duress? If you were followed home by MIBs, you enter with "Hey, I'm home. Turnip." and the little wife knows to man the BOFORS and prepare to repel invaders.

Man got up during the night to go to the bathroom, his wife thinking he was still in bed when a shadowy figure came to their bedroom door... shot & killed the intruder (her husband) . At least that was her story.

Can it happen ? Yes. Everyone knows not to wake me abruptly, and one reason I have my gun in a safe that requires a quik code to open it...... so by then I'll be awake enough to be engaging my brain. There was a good reason I was that way.... but it's not really applicable now. But a trained response, is difficult to lose.

It's a good reason to think about "how" accessible they want their bedside gun to really be.

Good idea and funny too.
