i open carry every day, every where, today costco manager ask me to not carry my weapon into the store, sorta pissed me off.

Jay just be nice. Kindly reply back. Thank you for your time and I will no longer be a patron of this store. Do not make a scene, just leave. That is costco stance amd probably the store manager (or he is following orders). Shop at Sams Club or another store.

Yeah, it's their corporate policy. I heard of a guy having $300 worth of groceries in two carts asked to take his gun out to his car. He looked back to his wife and said, "Honey, we're leaving." They left the carts where they sat and walked out the door, never to return.

I would have looked at that manager and said, "Fine.. .have fun putting this stuff back where I got it from." while smiling and giving him a hearty pat on the shoulder. That kind of message speaks volumes.

You would actually touch somebody uninvited? You touch me uninvited you'll end up in jail. When you wear a gun, you probably should not be touching people.

While you're at it, do what I did and ask them to refund your membership on the way out.

WalMart has a CORPORATE policy allowing concealed carry only. Is says that WalMart will go by State law and IF the person has beed 'awarded' a CCpermit in the state where the store is located you are welcome to CC. The letter was dated in 1997 and states that open carry is only allowed by a uniformed cop. I have no doubt many people have OCed in WalMart. But unless that policy has changed they state in the letter that you may be asked to coverup(conceal) the gun OR may be asked to leave. I CC and OC both, so do NOT interpret this post as against OC. Like any other business if you do not agree with their policy, VOTE WITH YOUR FEET AND MONEY!

Ok boys and girls. I dont mean to hijack this thread about Costco but a friend of mine earlier called WalMart corporate and got an answer different than the letter. So I guess as Navy would say, it depends on who you talk to. But my advice stands if ANY store doesnt like your gun, they dont like your money either. Besides, other stores have good prices also.

Costco corporate for a long time has been NO carry of any kind at any time.

Walmart follows state law regarding BOTH open and concealed carry, as does Starbucks.

They really don't care.

I see that said about Wal Mart many times on the 'net... and it is misleading because it implies that Wal Mart is pro carry... but in reality there is a catch because the State's trespass laws are also "State law"... so (since I'm not up on all the State's trespass laws I'll only refer to Michigan) a Wal Mart manager/manager's representative can still require a person to leave for any reason, including if some other customer complains about seeing a gun, under the trespass laws and still be following corporate policy of following State law... just a different law than the State firearms laws.

I was refused entry into the Marquette Wal Mart a couple of years ago because of openly carrying my sidearm. The manager's reason was.... she couldn't allow any unsecured guns in the store. Never mind she had no idea how many concealed guns were being carried in the store by other customers at that precise moment... my sidearm in the open was reason enough for her to refuse entry for me.

And she was well within her private property rights.. and the trespass laws... to do that.

I had a similar incident while in the state of UT. First thing the next morning I contacted Wal-mart corporate and not only did I get a written apology via snail mail, but I also got a personal telephone call from some regional big wig. Future visits to the same store resulted in the manager explaining to customers that I was not violating any laws, therefore was free to OC as long as I didn't harass any customers or employees.

Wal-mart as a whole is pretty solid with regard to allowing citizens to exercise their rights.
