Confused about the many brands of ammo

There are so many brands of ammo. Are there any that I should stay away from with my Sig P238? I heard the Aulammo russin stuff is not to great.

I would try as many different types as possible. Most of the Sig's I own are not that picky about ammo. If you find something that works stick with it. As a rule I won't use any ammo in my carry gun unless I have put at least 200 - 300 rounds downrange without any hiccups.

Stick with the name brands like Winchester and Remmington. Never had a problem with them. The only problem I've had is when I bought the cheap stuff.

Just for the sake of getting it out there, stay away from steel cased stuff if possible. Copper/brass and aluminum rounds are better for your gun.

The major exception to this would be Link Removed ammo. It is made for match shooting but uses steel cases for economy.

I agree that that Russian lacquered steel crap is garbage and horrible for your gun but I also won't put aluminum through my gun. One, you can't reload it so in the long run it's more expensive and two, every time I have used it, it's jammed at least every 5 shots in both my Glock and M9. Jammed almost every shot in the M9.

Your Glock's don't like aluminum cases ammo because the barrel does not fully support the shell.
Lots of reports of bulged ammo cases with Glock's using aluminum ammo.
Not quite sure of the M9 unless it too does not fully support the caseing.

That could be the case with the M9 too. Don't have it in front of me to look at but I seem to remember the chamber walls end short of case web.

As CharlesMorrison said, type of gun matters. I've run the CCI Blazer Al .45 ACP in a number of 1911s without problems. And the 9mm thru my Smith & Wessons.

I was actually asked buy the guy at the gun store what kind of auto I was going to use the blazer aluminum ammo in.
He was the one that told me about the Glock issue.
Once I said it was for the M&P .40 cal, he said no worries then!

well i tried the tulammo Russian steel case ammo and my p238 380 would not even chamber the first round. The same brand ammo worked okay in my brothers 9mm.
