Confronted While Open Carrying On My Own Property.
I had two interesting encounters with neighbors yesterday. I'm out in the yard doing a little spring cleaning'/yard work and one neighbor stopped and says, “Hey, tough guy! What're ya compensating for something, think you're a big man?” He reckoned I would not be so big without that gun.

He was PO'd because I had asked him to slow down earlier as he drove through the neighborhood. 10 mph speed limit, he's never under 20 mph or more. Kids, dogs, cats, elderly all use the road. No walks or curb. I asked very politely and suggested that I would be calling the sheriffs dept. in the future if he did not slow down. Same guy I pulled out of a snow bank last winter (he was drunk) Now he's a tad adversarial. He leaves and gives me a one finger salute. I am amused.

Later, another neighbor, his wife and I are talking about this and she says, “you bring this on yourself for carrying that, that gun.” She says; “you are scaring people, we've been talking about you. What kind of person carries a gun. We live in a quiet neighborhood. What are you afraid of?” I reply that I am not so much afraid as I am prepared. “FOR WHAT?” she very nearly yells.

I said, I am exercising my 2nd amendment right to bear arms in accordance with our state Constitution and the Constitution of the Republic. She says, “Well I don't know about all that but I think it would be better if we were like England.” Oh boy, here we go. “If all the guns were gone. . . .etc., etc., etc. zzzzzzzzzzz”

Her silent partner finally jumps in and says, “Yeah, I suppose you think kids should have guns too.” I say, “Noooo, I think they they should be able to shoot guns at whatever age their parents think is appropriate and under supervision.” He says, “before you know it, they'll be taking them to school.” I say, “Like they used too?”

I mentioned some of the recent incidents in Madison and Milwaukee with home break-ins and the crime map from Eau Claire. She was non-plussed and unmoved from here passivistic stance. I even remarked that Gandhi once said "Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the Act of depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest." She noted that and said she would have to look that up. Oooooh Kaaaaay. . . .

The conversation devolved from there with her saying that she did not want to argue but I should stop wearing the gun to make the neighbors feel better. I assured her that I would not and that the ones she should worry about are the guys who are hiding their guns and whom she is bumping shoulders with at Walmart etc. While shopping in her safe little world.

I asked her what if she were accosted and she said she would never use a gun even to save her own life and I just figure, there's natural selection at work for ya.

A Friend sent this pic and said, "here's your sign" ;

It amazes me that people do not understand the simple fact that the law abiding citizens that carry legally are not the ones to worry about.

Love your sign, but isn't that rubbing salt into a wound? :pleasantry:

People like his neighbors are so brain numb, it may take "salt in their wounds" to get them to wake up.

Some might say they live in a nice neighborhood and don't even need to lock their doors, but the first time they are robbed, not only do they start locking up, but they call and have a security system installed.

No sense arguing with stupid. Mr. Leadfoot needs to chill out and Ms. Rosie Glasses needs to realize that there are some really BAD people in this world who do bad things to GOOD people. There's nothing wrong with being prepared. I'll bet if an "active shooter" scenario were to happen in your neighborhood, Ms. Rosie Glasses would be the first one running for your property.

People wonder why nobody has tried to invade Switzerland. Our Swiss allies understand the importance of being able to protect themselves. I sure wish others here in the good 'ole USA would figure it out as well.

I'd do my best to keep my cool and avoid ignorant people As stated earlier, there's no sense in arguing with stupid.

You know, just because someone asks you a question in no way obligates you to have a discussion. I don't understand why people feel like they simply have to discuss something merely because someone starts talking to them.

"I think that's my business." Walk away.

I don't try to sell the idea nor do I feel the need to justify it to those who put up such a stink. I gave up trying to reform the non believers. I do it and that's good enough for me. I just ask that they respect my rights as I will theirs...

It's too bad that you have to put up with that crap in your own yard however.

Funny sign.

Peace...

Get a surprised look on your face and ask, "You mean you're not?!?!?" :pleasantry:

That makes two of us.

You sure got that right . Except my sister- in law (whom I haven't talked to in 10 years ) called me a gun nut 20 years ago and never took back what she said even after she was robbed and my nutty neighbors never broke in my house ( even though they threatened me because they knew I'd shoot and asked questions later . It seems people who have more money think that exempt from crime . Gun owners maybe poorer but we have an anwser for crime . At least 5 or more answers . God Bless!

You know what they say about arguing with an idiot. You can't win-they just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I asked her what if she were accosted and she said she would never use a gun even to save her own life This says it all and on that note I will submit the following, A NATION OF COWARDS. I know it has been posted before but some may have not seen it.

A Nation of Cowards

Most of my neghbors are cool but one lady, really dont like guns, some time back a few of us were out whatching the kids and this lady ask why i thought the gun was nessessary, I had my G-21 in my waistband, she would not let her kids get near me, I and everybody else though this was kind of a head up ass thing, so this past weekend same sort of little chit chat going on, I had my 709 in my pocket, so i tryed a little test, I go get my gun case and put my G-21 and G-36 in two back holsters, my G-27 in the other pocket, and a 380 on my ankle, untucked shirt, and go out, mrs busybody don't suspect a thing played ball with the kids, my wife and a couple of other neghbors that were in on it were laughing there butts off, and she was laughing to, woundering what was so funny, and finaly what really broke everybody up was her telling me, see you dont need a gun, nothing happened nobody tryed to shoot us, and nobodys scared, i had 5 weapons on me and this women did not have a clue, I dont know but the point I'm trying to make is, keep your weapon concealed, you surely dont need 5 guns, that was just to see if this women would notice anything, and she did not, keep your weapon concealed, and your trap shut about it and a lot of confrontations can be avoided

I dont even discuss it with people. Most of my relatives dont even know that I carry. If I were to get into a serious pissing contest with someone, Im sure the first thing they would do is call the issuing authority and suggest that Im not the right person to be carrying a firearm. I keep it a secret and dont have any problems. As far as open carry, its not really allowed in my state. RI.

When I lived in Albuquerque I had similar discussions with some neighbors. I thought my reply was non-confrontational, "Yes, we live in a nice neighborhood but the thieves and home invaders have cars, owned or stolen, and they can drive here just like you do."

On occasion it made them think. Only on occasion, though.

I do open carry in other states such as new hampshire and Vermont. If Im asked up there, I plan on simply saying something simple like "have a nice day and God Bless" or some words to that affect as I walk away. I really dont care to get into conversations that have a possibility to become an argument.
