Concealed Weapons Permit Receipt

I dropped of my 1st time application for an Oregon CHL and was told NOT to carry until my license arrived in the mail. I would have assumed as much without her instruction, but I would certainly recommend waiting until the real license shows up in the mail.

According to my reminder letter from the sheriff's department, I could RENEW my permit up to 30 days prior to its expiration. When I renewed mine, I was told that it would take 6-8 weeks to receive the new one, and that I should keep the receipt with me. Granted, unlike a new application, I will have my expired permit as well as the receipt showing that the new one is on the way...

I submitted my permit application on 29 Oct, and received it 15 Dec. I called the county on 14 December and they said they were running a full 45 days processing time. I assume this is due to the volume of applications? Wow.
